Texas Open Carry – Negative
PLEASE NOTE: This thread is intended for those who do not support open-carry in Texas. For those in favor of open-carry in Texas please see the thread “Texas Open Carry – Positive”. Thank you.
For those opposed to open-carry, I have opened this thread to allow you to voice your opinion, make your statement, vent your frustrations, flame, etc., etc. about the pit-falls, dangers, tactical disadvantages, etc., etc. of open carry, OpenCarry.org, non-CHL holders, etc., etc. PLEASE – No personal attacks to reframe from having this thread locked.
To open up the discussions – I would like to ask a question to those of you that do not support open-carry. “Would you be in favor of Brady or other anti-2A legislation to ban open carry in the 44 states that currently allow OC?
Thanks and Have a Nice Day,
Conagher

If police and security guards are allowed to open carry they'll lose the tactical advantage, their guns will be snatched, and many 30.06 signs will be posted.

I support Open Carry in Texas.
I do NOT support opencarry.org, after watching them severely bungle the handling of the issue here in Texas.

Re: Texas Open Carry – Negative
Basically, treating the issue like an internet flamewar.
Not doing their homework about how the legal system works here.
Proposing a horrible bill that opens way too much of the law to bad amendments due to germane issues.
Taking the whole Newt Gengrich approach with the TSRA, who is their best bet to help them in the future.
Being decisive about the whole open carry issue to the detriment to other bills that need to get passed (i.e. parking lots)
The best way to get freedom back is to do so incrementally; much like taking it away. If you move way too fast, the backlash will eat you alive. I'd rather have open carry in 2013 than have it pushed in 2009, and bringing the attention of the anti-gunners to Texas and erasing the gains we've made.

I kinda' thought that some of the more unilateral OC folk were taking the Nancy Pelosi approach and calling it bilateral. Did I miss something?nitrogen wrote:Basically, treating the issue like an internet flamewar.

Re: Texas Open Carry – Negative
1. Using an in-your-face attitude toward any and all pro-gun people who don't agree with open-carry for very good reasons;03Lightningrocks wrote:Where do you feel like they made their mistake(bungle)?nitrogen wrote:I support Open Carry in Texas.
I do NOT support opencarry.org, after watching them severely bungle the handling of the issue here in Texas.
2. Threatening proven pro-gun Senators and Representatives who don't currently support open-carry;
3. Destroying their credibility by proclaiming utterly bogus risks like being arrested for "unintentional failure to conceal;"
4. Having people who know absolutely nothing about Texas politics run the campaign;
5. Drafting a horrendous bill;
6. Claiming a Representative had agreed to file the bill when she only agreed to have a draft prepared;
7. Lying about TSRA;
8. Asking their members to each call their Senator and Representative and ask them to file OpenCarry.org's terrible bill (this would be laughable, if it were not so pathetic);
9. Trying to rely upon an Internet petition that carries no weight in Austin or with any politician;
10. Announcing your intention the opposition by running a $25,000 ad campaign that means nothing in Austin;
11. Lying about the Heller opining.
My fingers are getting tired.

12. The insinuation that an uniformed police or security officer who is openly carrying has any bearing or similarity on how people will react to an average Joe with a .45 sticking out of his waistband in line at the movie theater, grocery store, or restaurant.
Frankly, I don't want to see it (your gun). It's an eyesore, and I don't need that in my face everywhere I turn. Honestly, I find it offensive.
