Obama DOJ Is Jumping On My Favorite Sheriff

Post by TxD »

....spurred on by a bunch of democrats and ......whats this?........ACORN.

Justice Dept. Investigates Arizona Sheriff for Enforcing Immigration Law

".... 20 percent of inmates in the Maricopa County Jail are illegal aliens and of those,
2,000 illegal aliens - 70 percent - were arrested for felony crimes."

And this:

Obama Justice Department Investigating Arizona Sheriff for Alleged 'Discrimination Based on National Origin

"The department has aggressively pursued investigations under Arizona's employer sanctions law and a state anti-smuggling law.
The smuggling law was designed to help local police fight smugglers, but an interpretation by Maricopa County's top prosecutor opened the door for Arpaio's deputies to arrest people who pay smugglers and accuse them of being co-conspirators."

The democrats will champion any cause or group if they think it will get them votes and/or further their personal and party agendas; otherwise, they couldn't care less.

I've always thought Sheriff Joe Arpaio was a bit of a media whore. A lot of what he does, he does for the publicity, not necessarily because he gives a damn. There's been a lot of allegations of corruption and cover-ups during his long reign as Maricopa County Sheriff.

I would really like anyone pointing fingers at Sheriff Joe and claiming corruption to come clean. Acorn? That is the pot calling the kettle black.

Yes, conservative success on controversial issues tends to draw a little heat.
Look no further than the way Governor Palin was treated.

I wonder if there have been any convictions from those allegations against the Sheriff?

Like any controversial figure, Sheriff Joe has his good and his bad side.
While most of us applaud the way he does business, he is no angel.

I have an old and trusted friend who was once married to a Maricopa County Sheriffs Deputy.
Here is what she wrote me about him:

Oh, Sheriff Joe....

The good Sheriff will do anything for media attention. If the media or
citizenry crosses him BEWARE! Did you hear the stories of Pvt. Haab who held
the illegals at gun point and our County Attorney did not go after him?
Sheriff Joe is in the process of "uncovering" information to prove the kid
should be jailed---not because what he did was wrong--but because the County
Attorney embarassed Sheriff Joe in the news.

A Cave Creek City Councilman spoke out at a city council meeting about the
response time of one of the Sheriff's deputies--It made the news--Sheriff
Joe pulled his deputies out of the City of Cave Creek.

I have met Sheriff Joe while working with the Jaycees. He is in
the parade every year. I find him arrogrant, degrading and a hypocrite. He
does not bathe, he does not listen...and I work hard to always find something
positive about everyone. His officers reflect him.

It is commonly believed that the letter you have--
[the one in 2005 about the pink prisoner's suits]
originated in his own office.

[relative]'s Dad is one of his detention officers. His own men hate him.
He does not support his deputies, nor does he give them raises. We would
love to see him voted out of office, but no-one is willing to risk the
political slime by running against him. Two weeks ago, it came out the he
gave his officers that had contributed $$$ to his re-election promotions and
raises and transferred those officers who did not to the poor working
opportunities. And the officers are not suppose to play politics.

As far as his treatment of the prisoners...he's great.I agree totally with
his programs. It's just a shame it puts his programs together for media
hype, instead of for the good of the community. He has an incredible program
together where prisoners take care of recovering abused animals.

The general consequence is that the prisoners at Camp Gitmo, have it better
than the DWI's in Sheriff Joe's jail.

The general consensus is that any jail or prison in Texas is not as comfortable as Guantanamo. I have known a few guards, and a few guys who spent time in our correctional system, Both types of folks don't believe that our prisoners live the good life.

I know a lot of folks in the Phoenix Police department don't care much for Sheriff Joe, I think that its worth noting that quite a few Arizona politicians spend the latter part of their careers in jail.

I lived in Phoenix for about 5 years, Trust me when I say this, Joe is for real, he was the only one in Maricopa county who gives a dang about the law. You have the dike former Governor ( now your Homeland Security Chief), that has to make you feel safe, she cannot even put a dent in the Arizona illegals and the weak liberal Mayor Phil Gordon who fights Joe on every illegal he puts in jail. Joe gets sued everyday for just trying to enforce laws that are already on the books. If Joe was not the Maricopa Sheriff, I could not imagine what the crime rate would be in Illegal riddled Phoenix.

Yep, that's pretty much what I've heard too from long-time residents of Maricopa County. Some of his ideas are good, such as the tent-city and saving tax dollars at the jail. That's great...but some of his ideas, like the neon "Vacancy" sign on the guard tower...is that really necessary? That's just theatrics. I guarantee you that does nothing to deter crime...but it got him in the press, and it makes him popular with the "Snowbirds" who keep re-electing him.

From what I've heard, he's definitely got a big ego and thinks of himself above the law, and I've heard he's a jerk in person. NOT the kind of guy you'd want to go fishing with or have as a next-door neighbor.
