How many magazines ?

I don't keep all my mags loaded. I hope I never feel the need to do that, but if I do I'll have enough to fight the whole darned war.

Hmmm...come to think of it, I do have about 120 8 rd. clips for my Garands loaded! (that's how it came )

I need a few speed strips, too. I know that's 'stretching' it, but technically, they are 'magazines' of a sort. I suppose I'll eventually have 10-15 1911 mags in various states of loadedness, too.

I have my nightstand pistol loaded and a stand by magazine loaded for it. I usually have 4 30rd mags for my Ak loaded ready for an outing of any type, and I have around 3-5 30rd AR mags and 5 20rd AR mags loaded with HP ammo. I have my 12ga loaded with the side saddle loaded as well. I am ready/paranoid see it how you will. I also don't like having to take a bunch of time loading mags before I go out to shoot. Cleaning guns a reloading mags is an evening type thing for me after I go shoot.

I read one forum about a guy who had 250 AR mags. Now if you had 20 magazines, loaded, that would be 600 rounds of ammo.
Sounds like time to buy more ammo!

Springs don't work that way. Other than corrosion, fatigue comes from either over-extension (not an issue with mags) or cycles of use. Keeping them loaded puts less "wear" on the springs than periodically loading and unloading them would.

At my house, we keep most magazines loaded, but there are a few extra unloaded ones laying around the safe. This is the list of loaded magazines:

Eleven 30 round P-Mags and two 20 round P-Mags for my ARs.
Three 7 round mags for my Kimber Ultra.
Three 7 round mags for my Springfield loaded.
Two 12 round mags for my USPc .40.
Three 15 round mags for my wife's G19.
Three 8 round mags for my son's PT1911.
Four or five 30 round P-Mags for my son's ARs.

If revolver speedloaders count, I also have two loaded 5 rounders for .38 Specials, and two 6 rounders for a .44 magnum.

The empties are:
Five empty 7 round mags for my Ithaca 1911A1
Two empty 7 round mags for my Colt Goverment .380.

The weird part is that I never really set out to have a lot of loaded magazines, and I've never really considered the total number until just now. I only ever thought about what I thought was necessary for a given firearm, and that unloaded firearms don't make much sense - unless you also have ready access to a loaded magazine. The only real exception to that is our three bolt rifles, which are stored with magazines empty, and the above mentioned Ithaca and Colt pistols. BTW, several of the pistols are kept around the house, loaded with one in the pipe. The others are kept unloaded in the safe, with readily available loaded magazines.

Really (here's where the idiot looks to confirm), so we can keep mags fully loaded with no spring deterioration-for...even years? Under my personal "Obama shortage stimulus plan" I aquired multiple 11+ round clips (still in their containers), but had no intention of opening and loading as I thought it might wear the springs.

I like that satisfyingly vague answer from AEA, "I have ENOUGH..." Indeed, I have enough that I am confident there will be a very tall pile of zombies outside my home before I have to start stuffing magazines. I'll probably have the opportunity to transition to a belt-fed weapon system long before we get to stuffing.
