Hillary in Mexico
A little cut and paste from Hillary in Mexico today. If anyone thinks that the current administration has shelved the idea of a new AWB, think again!
MEXICO CITY — Acknowledging that the United States plays a part in Mexico’s drug violence, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday the Obama administration is determined to stop automatic weapons trafficking from Texas and other states that are arming narcotics gangs.
“We are going to look at whatever is possible to do ourselves,” Clinton told reporters after meeting with President Felipe Calderon in the Mexican capital. She acknowledged that getting an automatic weapons ban approved by the U.S. Congress is “a very high hurdle.”
But Clinton likened Mexico’s current violence — which has killed more than 9,000 people since Calderon took office in December 2006 — to the crime wave that seized some U.S. cities two decades ago.
That insecurity, also largely fueled by narcotics gangs, led to the Congress’ 1994 ban on automatic weapons sales, which expired five years ago.
“We know what it’s like to be intimidated by criminals,” Clinton said in a news conference following her meeting with Calderon. “We see it as a similar struggle to what Mexico is involved in.”

Re: Hillary in Mexico
Someone suggested that captured automatic weapons could/should be traced back to their manufacturer. That same someone suggested that those automatic weapons are probably going through the Mexican government/military to the gangsters.
Hey Hil, let's run a background search on the captured weapons and see what we find out. Whadda' ya' say?

Hillary and cohorts would never do this as the findings would likely not support their position (especially in regard to automatic weapons). However, tracing confiscated/captured weapons back to their source seems a very logical pursuit. I wonder if there is an investigative reporter that might want to take a look into this (if there are any who can think on a higher level than "guns are evil")?

Maybe we could bribe the Mexican gov't someway to KEEP her. I know it's an awful thing to wish on a country...but we've had her long enough.

I haven't watched anything but the 10pm local news in well over 4 years, so I have no idea if there are any investigative reporters out there anymore with an open/fair mind. I know John Stossel used to, but he may be persona non grata these days, since he's skewered so many people in the past.Dave01 wrote:Oldgringo wrote:Someone suggested that captured automatic weapons could/should be traced back to their manufacturer. Or were you thinking more about somebody local in South Texas or one of the San Antonio local stations?

Re: Hillary in Mexico
I thought about Stossel as well, but he/ABC probably sets their own investigative agenda. A local station reporter might be more inclined to make an effort, assuming they don't buy into the rhetoric being issued from the Capital. I suppose it doesn't matter where they are located, but considering Texas is one of the states targeted as a bad actor, it makes more sense coming from someone with decent proximity to the issue.UpTheIrons wrote:

Re: Hillary in Mexico
Even though I don't have the time right now, I plan on writing, next week sometime, a letter to all the San Antonio TV "Investigative Reporter" desks that asks the question:
Where are all these guns in Mexico really coming from?
Something along the lines of:
1. According to the law (briefly reference NFA, '68 law and '86 law), fully automatic weapons can't be bought by just anyone just anywhere.
2. Supposedly these weapons are coming from American (and especially Texas border) gun stores.
3. Congress had a hearing last week (link to video) where Sen. Feinstein said "thousands" of weapons are crossing the border, and the LEO reply was that the number was really in the "hundreds". Why is there a discrepancy? Who's right?
4. Could you find out the serial numbers on some of these seized weapons and run a check to see who made them, and who bought them? That may help identify where they are coming from.
It may do nothing, but if every station gets one knowing that every other station is getting the same leter, they might look into it. "Breaking News," etc.
Or am I wasting my breath/ink?
ETA: Also, is there anything I've forgotten that is a salient point to make, if this isn't a colossal waste of time?

Re: Hillary in Mexico
Seems like it would be as easy as attending one of the staged displays of weaponry with a very high end camera. Take a bunch of high resolution pictures of the firearms, focusing on the serial numbers. Trace the numbers back to the manufacturer to find out their history. Then publish the results.
I'd love to see one of the staged pictures with little pop up boxes when you scanned over each item that showed it's probable origin, i.e. RPG - not available for sale in the US, source - Mexican military or black market from Central/South America...M16 - fully automatic military version not available for sale in the US, source - Mexican military or black market from Central/South America, etc...

Re: Hillary in Mexico
Hillary was on Greta Van Susteren last night talking about this issue. The video interview can be found at http://www.foxnews.com/video2/video08.h ... therecord/. Be warned...this interview will make your blood boil.
Hillary again used the term "automatic" to describe the weapons supposedly being transported into Mexico. Greta claimed that the ATF has been tracing serial numbers of confiscated automaitc weapons to US sources. I'm sure some weapons are making their way south, but certainly not automatic ones. Besides, every time I see a picture of confiscated weapons, there are typically grenades, mortars, etc. It's much more logical that the source of this military ordnance is also the primary source of firearms.

Re: Hillary in Mexico
Might these "US sources" be ones that it is politically inexpedient for FoxNews to name? Just because they came from the US doesn't mean they came from a gun store. If it was stolen/bribed Mexican Military hardware that was captured, which our government sold them, wouldn't it still be true that it came "from a US source"?Dave01 wrote: Greta claimed that the ATF has been tracing serial numbers of confiscated automaitc weapons to US sources. (sarcasm ON) Of course, since FoxNews is the handmaiden of the Right Wing (sarcasm OFF), why wouldn't Greta say that on her show? Or might she be a shill for Hill?
