Not seeing images in WORD doc
Not seeing images in WORD doc
Greetings--
Downloaded a set of instructions containing text and photos in a WORD doc.
I open it and all I see for the photos are placeholders-- no photos/diagrams. I thought it was a bad download so I asked a buddy to send me his copy-- same thing. I would assume that his had visable images though.
Am I missing a setting in WORD ? Are the images placed in WORD docs not really placed, but rely on seperate doccuments (not included with the download of course !) ?

You probably opened it as an HTML instead of the PDF format.
Go back to the address and see if it is offered both ways. If so, click on the PDF and see it that cures things (it will take longer to load..but should give you the pics/illustrations).

What 'View' are you looking at? Try choosing "Normal" and see what it gives you...

Re: Not seeing images in WORD doc
This thread seems to be dead, but I have a question. I am seeing the images, but they don't look good. I am using Word 2002.
I am making some logos with CorelDraw. They are single color vector drawings. When I insert a graphic into Word it has jagged edges. Even if I use an EPS or other vector format. Sometimes when I save the graphic as a JPG or BMP then the aspect ratio is messed up -the width is compressed. If I have a JPG of a photograph that I insert into Word it looks fine. Any suggestions?

Re: Not seeing images in WORD doc
Word can do a lousy job on diplaying graphics, I have switched over to Openoffice.org recentlyand it seems to do a beter with graphics, although they tend to display on he rough side. They print well. One of he features of 3.1 will be anti-aliasing will which should result in smoother graphics. One thing tha can help is to size the graphics in your graphics editing software instead of your ext editor.
Best of luck to ya'

Re: Not seeing images in WORD doc
I discovered a pretty good way to do it. I will have to print the files at work tomorrow to see how they are.
My method is as follows:
Select the object in CorelDraw. Ungroup the object. Convert the object to a bitmap.
Copy the object to the clipboard. Open up a document in MS Word and use paste special to paste the graphic as an MS Office Object.
It looks pretty good on the monitor. There are no jagged edges and the graphic is not blurry. You would think that as long as MS Word has been around the graphics handling would be very good quality. I guess that's what lack of competition does for quality.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Not seeing images in WORD doc
Bill, I don't work much in CorelDraw, but I do a lot of training materials in Word that include extensive graphics. I prefer to use the Portable Network Graphics (.PNG) format (PNG gives better on-screen images, but both print about the same). They also are processed pretty smoothly into PDF format when I convert the Word doc to Acrobat (I've had some weird layout issues with GIFs).
If I have to use a JPG, and I am creating it myself, I set the file to use best appearance/largest size (with JPGs its always a tade-off between the two, as I'm sure you know).
I haven't used Word 2002 for about 6 years now (I didn't like it and upgraded to 2003 as soon as I could - it did fix some issues for me). It could be that you're running into a limitation of the rendering engine for processing the graphcis file you are creating.
Other than that, Liberty's suggestion of OpenOffice.org is good, and you might also consider updating your video card drivers if you haven't already tried.
