In the early 1980s in Chicago, a local neighborhood "news paper" had an article about some sick guy who was preying on single women / college students. Apparently one intended victim, instead of "going quietly", fought back / yelled / cursed at him - and he reportedly ran away calling "Mommy!" (said he was sick, didn't I?).
No guarantees, but sometimes fighting back at all is as effective as fighting back competently (i.e. with skill). Sometimes predators will leave you alone if you puff up your fur, bottle-brush your tail, show your teeth, and hiss.

That sign is incredibly inaccurate. It failed in the small children discussion. It should be "pick up children without bending. Children make excellent shields and can be thrown as a distraction while making your getaway."atxgun wrote:
