Bad Fingerprints - Day 47

Post by sebis »

Today I got a letter in the mail that my fingerprints cards were rejected due to:

1. Not enough ink being used
2. Not enough definition due to too much pressure being applied or slippage.

So now I am scrambling to schedule with FAST, the new fingerprinting service from TDPS, processed thru Indentix. Apparently these are electronic prints, costs like $9.99 and they are done "FAST".

A little disappointed that I'll have to wait longer now, have I known about FAST I would have done it from the beginning.

For those interested, I took the CHL course at Top Gun.

It seems the rate of rejected prints from DPS has increased dramatically since the beginning of this year. Hmmm, about the same time that they started taking longer and longer to process applications, and stopped sending out application materials to instructors in a timely manner.

I don't know what is going on in Austin, but I think they might be rejecting prints when they need to buy more time to process apps. In 3 years we had 2 sets of prints rejected. Since January, we have had maybe a dozen. Oh, and just so you know, someone came to us with FAST prints that had been rejected by DPS.

Thanks for the heads-up, all I hope is that they'll not reject mine twice. I can't believe that it took them 45 days to see the prints are no good, 20 days following the PIN.

Sebis...my wife had to get re-prints as well.....got lucky and got FAST ones done day after she got her letter/ and prints back from Austin....pushed her back to about 2 1/2 weeks.... when her CHL finally arrived...compared to my set that went through....
I heard from one instructor the "the 8th set" is always 'thrown out'....helps with the work load right now!

In any event ....hang in there!

FAST is Not FAST

Post by sebis »

Went to do the FAST prints today but instead of print-and-go I got print-and-wait. Apparently the location on Southwest Freeway doesn't have a printer. Now I am upset, I was told I'll get them in the mail within a week.

WHY would they not tell you that at the time of doing your re-prints???
Really not good business practice at all....
 ...Unfortunately, that will add at least one more week to the process alreadey delayed. Make sure you get return receipt requested on USPS when you send down to AUS.

Hang in there....keep us posted!

Thank you for your support. I called their Customer Support line to complain hoping to get them to overnight the prints. They asked for additional $35 to overnight them or offered to schedule another appointment for Monday. I declined both options since Monday is already 5 days from today and I may get them on the mail anyway.

I feel that was their mistake for not having a printer and not announcing it at the time of scheduling the appointment and they should have overnight the prints for free. Since I already paid too much for this application including overnight FedEx fees for sending the initial documents to Austin, I could not accept to pay $35 to gain 5 or 6 days. Instead I elected to give them a BAD review on this site.

So for those whom are entertaining the idea of using the FAST service, please be aware you may have to wait a week before you get your prints.

Following-up on the FAST forms, I received them in the mail today but they are both FBI type forms rather then one FBI and one Texas DPS.

Not sure if this is ok with DPS thou, anyone has experience with this?

I have heard that the DPS will accept the FBI form, but not vice versa. This is second-hand information and not personal experience, though.

FAST is electronic fingerprinting service approved by Texas DPS, you can register online here:
http://identix.com/IIS/

Please note that the location in Houston on Southwest Freeway doesn't have a printer, I would suggest to use the other location if you are in Houston and in a hurry.

Comparing with the first set of prints done in ink they do look much better but I am not an expert and DPS may reject them anyway, wait and see.

What I don't get it is why they are not transferred electronically since they are electronic prints??? It appears to me that printing them on paper is lame.

When I did my immigration paperwork they did electronic prints on me for the FBI background check AND were transferred as such to FBI! Luckily at that time my prints were accepted the first time and didn't delay my greencard further, I was already waiting for 5 (five) years. I guess the CHL wait is nothing compared with that...

My packet had a FAST page mailed with it that told us about the program. I don't know if that's SOP for them now tho...
