Gun Magazine/NRA Responsible For Mail?

Post by Abraham »

In yesterdays mail, I received a number of mailings from various pro-firearm organizations I've have no dealings with, encouraging me to join their organizations.

Yes, I'm an NRA member and get a variety of gun magazines.

I wonder which, if not all, are giving away or selling my name and address?

Any idea which one?

Thanks

I have no evidence that the NRA shares its mailing lists. I have been an NRA member for years and receive almost nothing else that is related to firearms or hunting.

P.S.: The same goes for the TSRA and the few other pro-RKBA organizations that have my address.

I do not subscribe to any shooting-related publications. I've ordered a few things from places like Midway, but they apparently do not sell that information either.

I somehow got on a list of people interested in conservation, and you should see the piles of mail that I get from those people. It's ironic that organizations like the Sierra Club send out large mailers with calendars, plastic stickers, and other freebies.

NRA does not sell its membership lists. We have fought legal battles to keep that information confidential and we would lose that fight if we sold our mailing list. (The same goes for TSRA.)

Unfortunately, it's very common for editors of magazines to sell their mailing lists, as well as provide them to sister publications. I've wondered if gun show promoters also sell or otherwise provide the address databases they compile with those entry forms for the door prizes.

That is one reason I never enter my name into any type of drawing. Some companies, such as MidWay USA will share information unless you specifically tell them not to do so.

Thanks Charles!

Good to know.

As for drawings at gun shows, some years ago a telephone solicitor admitted she received my name and particulars from that source.

I no longer enter drawings...
