Shawn Plummer’s letter “Isle criminals are more brazen now” (The Daily News, May 17) was right on target. Since Hurricane Ike, criminals have had a field day.
On a bright sunny day, two busted through my son’s front door. With my .380 Bersa, I chased them down the street. They don’t realize how close they came to immediate justice and death.
Instead of taking a family vacation, we and some friends took Tom Estep’s concealed-handgun-licensing class. Now, more than a dozen of us are arms trained and “packing heat.” We fully intend to defend ourselves and our property.
Our neighborhood has four small “ghetto houses.” Teens go in them and smoke and deal drugs. Recently, two were having sex against a wall. I yelled that I had called the police. They moved on.
We have called the police more than three dozen times in the past six months for pit bulls running loose, sex acts out in the open, drug deals, break-ins, etc. We citizens are forced to police our neighborhoods. Now, many of us are “armed and dangerous” to criminals.
We are all for gun control. If there is a gun in play, we want to be the ones controlling it.
