1792 - Kentucky became the 15th state.

1796 - Tennessee became the 16th state.

What I find interesting here is how fast the western frontier was expanding at that early time.

1813 - Capt. James Lawrence, the mortally wounded commander of the frigate Chesapeake, said "Don't give up the ship." He died three days later.

1868 - The Texas constitutional convention met in Austin.
