Anyone know how to fix this in a dodge truck?

hey yall,

my code reader is giving me this error message "A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input" and I've been searching the internet for about 2 hours now and can not find ANYTHING except a list of error codes.

Do any of yall know what this means? Any way to fix it?

I figure it couldn't hurt to ask lol.

The truck is a:

04 Dodge Ram, 1 ton.

I'm no A/C or Dodge mechanic but typically there is a pressure sensor on auto air conditioners that won't let the compressor cycle if the refrigerant gets low. This keeps the compressor from burning up due to lack of lubricant that is circulated with the refrigerant. Since there is an electronic circuit associated with this switch, my guess would be that Dodge decided to take advantage of it and give the operator an indicator that it's time to add freon.

I would go to WalMart, get a charge kit and add a pound of refrigerant. I'll bet the error code goes away and it gets cooler in the cab of the truck.

That'll be $80 please.

lol I'm starting to think if its an electrical problem its somewhere in the steering column as its had problems there before, but idk, I wish they would make trucks easy to fix lol

They used to. I remember standing on the ground, under the hood, beside Ford's 300 streight 6 to work on it. I cant hardly find the oil filter now. If you drop a wrench it will not make it to the ground & you have to pull the engine to get it back. Or so I hear.

'05 Chevy Crewcab - don't even try to change the oil. I almost don't wanna add washer fluid but the BUZZER DOESN'T QUIT UNTIL YOU DO~ and don't get me started on the oil change schedule. My truck sends me emails when it gets to 0%. Urggghhh!

I do not post there often because they all know more than I do, and I have nothing to teach anyone. My 1995 Cummins / Dodge has just over 413,000 miles on it - about four times what I would normally expect from a new vehicle - and sometimes I just want to post a "Thank You" note there, for all the help over the years.

Search on your error code and you will probably find an answer. There is also a link to all the TSBs for these trucks, too.

Check on the top at the outlet of the compressor...on my 2000 Dak R/T there was a green electrical pressure switch that was wired to the PCM. If this switch goes bad, it will send an error code...and will also cause a shutdown of the system.

Unfortunately, to replace the switch, you have to evacuate the system (if memory serves). The switch is cheap, but the recharge might not be. Take it to the dealer to diagnose, then check around to see if anyone can fix on the cheap.
