A Louisville homeowner awoke to noises in the house early Wednesday morning. He armed himself and confronted a masked burglar. Both men fired shots. The burglar was shot dead. The homeowner was not injured.
The burglar was the homeowner's 20-year-old grandson. He was armed with a revolver that he had stolen earlier from his grandfather's vehicle.
Police arrested an alleged accomplice, who may be charged with homicide.

A tragedy for everyone involved.

How do you make sense of this?? I would let my grandson's (oldest is 7 now) have almost anything I own. But when the grandson steals a revolver, then breaks into the house to rob his grandparents while toting the stolen revolver?? That is unbelieveable. Then grandpa has to live with knowing he killed his grandson that he thought was a trying to rob him. I guess the criminals don't always think about how their actions could turn out. This sad on so many levels.

I don't pretend to understand it, but there is a lot of this sort of thing. Several years ago in Texas City, a teenager and a couple of his "friends" broke into his elderly grandparents' home and beat them to death.
The really pathetic aspect is that the stuff they stole had little value.
Sometimes people know or falsely believe that elderly people have a lot of money hidden somewhere. I've seen that factor in quite a few crimes.
