We have discussed this scenario many times. This looks like a textbook case.

Re: VA: Customer shoots robber
I thought it was interesting that the good guy's weapon was a Western
style .45.
Since it was Virginia, I doubt the GG was on his way to a cowboy re-enactment.
The store owner is considering either arming himself of moving back to Morocco.
Heck, I wish I had enough money to buy him a gun he likes. He's been an American
for 20 years and he lives in a state that affirms 2A values. Ix-nay on moving I say.
Someone hand that shopkeeper a handgun!

Wow. An open-carry state and robbers are still willing to take chances...

Exactly what I was thinking! First I wondered where the guy concealed this and then I remembered VA is an open carry state. He might have just had it in a regular western style holster. That's just awesome.Purplehood wrote:Wow. An open-carry state and robbers are still willing to take chances...
I was recently traveling through Kansas and considered open carrying at a few stop along the way. It still felt too wierd and I didn't. Maybe because I was away from home and didn't want the hassle, if there would have been one, but maybe I'd be more comfortable around more familiar territory if Texas allows this in the future.

There's a pharmacist in OK city that needs these folks on his jury! Some people in the store told the man to finish off the robber, witnesses reported.
"Everyone was telling him to kill him," Kassou said,
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: VA: Customer shoots robber

Excellent self control on the customer's part. I like the fact that no one ID's the defender too, I'd prefer to go unnamed if ever in such a situation.

Re: VA: Customer shoots robber
I think there's another thread floating around on the forum that has links to much
more information on this encounter. But I couldn't recall the thread's heading;.
The GG's gun was an 1875 replica revolver in .45 Long Colt, with GET THIS:
a 7.5 inch barrel. Heck I'd feel like a champ if I move up to a 5" barrel gun and
can keep it concealed. My Taurus has only a 3.25" barrel which is good for concealment,
but I would prefer to have a 4 or 5 inch barrel for the longer sighting and the improved
oomph of my JHP's.
A weapon like this GG's needs to be hung up in the rifle rack in a pickup.
During the encounter the GG had to hit the floor and his trigger was partially
broken. He had to fan the hammer back with one hand, but the gun could still fire.

BrianSW99:
You are a scholar and a gentleman for providing much fresh information on this GG
who did the right thing under difficult circumstances.
A city guy from Virginia open carrying an Uberti 1875 replica cowboy gun in a holster
with a leg tie.
He definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer!

Re: VA: Customer shoots robber
It's a great story. I've forwarded it to everyone I can think of who's "on the fence" regarding 2A rights/armed self defense.
But of course the press and the "antis" are doing their usual worst to sour it: It's a fluke; just luck; don't try it yourself because it would never turn out so well again; should've waited for the cops; it's better to let the BG keep shooting because a citizen with a gun might miss; just because several lives were saved doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. Yada yada yada.
I had to take a booster dose of my BP med after readng this: http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/c ... 02/281163/
