what are the knife laws concerning bars? are there any rules? or just the standard laws apply (less than 4.5" blade, etc)

That's a good question. I've been stopped by night club door goons because they saw my knife clipped to my back pocket. I don't know that there are any special restrictions on legal knives where alcohol is sold. It was always easier to go to my car and "put it away"dukesean wrote:what are the knife laws concerning bars? are there any rules? or just the standard laws apply (less than 4.5" blade, etc)

At Stars games they run us through metal detectors. I just leave it in my car there, but I'm still not sure that I can't have it - aside from AA Center saying they don't want any knifes there at all.

At sporting events where you go through a metal detector, I definitely leave such things behind. I'm pretty confident in the security to feel at ease without some sort of protection.Drewthetexan wrote:That's a good question. But at a bar, where people tend to get very stupid, I would hypothetically *ahem* always carry my knife with me. There have been times when things have gotten out of hand and I felt a lot better having some sort of protection for me and my friends. Definitely a last-resort type of response, but sometimes, like a gun, just whipping it out could deter any would-be nastiness. I've had a friend cut up with a beer bottle over a case of mistaken identity (they thought he was someone when he wasn't).

I can't find any Texas laws prohibiting carrying knives in bars and sporting events except for the UCW rules that also apply outside bars and sporting events. However, 30.05 can be used to prohibit knives the same as cameras and cell phones and hats and shirts and smuggled snacks.
