Change in Zip
Well I updated my DL last week to reflect real mailing address to match the CHL app. Then today I get a letter in the mail saying they are changing my zip code on Jul 1st So now what do I need to update my DL again and CHL?

Re: Change in Zip
I think you don't need to do anything for the CHL. The change of address rule (411.181) says "If a person who is a current license holder moves to a new residence address" but you didn't move. I might send a note to DPS about the zipcode change but I wouldn't send money for new cards.
Actually since your application is still being processed, I suggest sending the CHL unit a copy of the letter from the post office. They should issue the CHL with the correct zip code.

Re: Change in Zip
Similar thing happened when in Longview - the address changed on the house because of 911 addressing. Didn't move, but caused no amount of grief changing everything (including the CHL - whom I called). We had to pay for the DL and CHL reissued/corrected licenses along with a bunch of other costs. The kicker was that our mortgage company (Principal) went ballistic and called us after we submitted an address change to ask if we sold our home or if we were renting it out. Explained that it was a 911 change, the house was still there, we were still in it, and the mortgage would still be paid - just the street number had changed. They would not accept our explanation and wanted a letter from the sheriff detailing the change and sent out one of their Principal appraisers to look the house over and take photos. What nuts!!!

suthdj - call the DPS CHL helpline. If they are still processing your application, they can change it before they issue it, and you won't have to pay any fee.
On the DL, I would go down to the DPS driver's license office nearest you. Take the letter you got about the zip code change with you. They should change your DL at no fee to you. They have done that in the past for 911 address changes.

Thanks, I was in your last class, you were the reason I went to the website and made the DL match the CHL address and leave it to the post office to throw a wrench in the works. I sent an email to the CHL people see what they have to say, as for the DL I have not received my replacement yet.Crossfire wrote:suthdj - call the DPS CHL helpline. Re: Change in Zip
That's crazy. My address was also recently changed due to 911 issues, and man what a pain in the butt that's been. We complained to our councilman to no avail, and yes I had to pay money out of my own pocket to get new IDs. Personally I think the cities should pay that bill, but that would never happencouzin wrote:Similar thing happened when in Longview - the address changed on the house because of 911 addressing. at least I didn't have to deal with some insane mortgage company.

Re: Change in Zip
does anyone have an update from DPS on this? The post office changed my Zip code due to growth issues, and I have already changed my DL/CHL to reflect just to be safe. I recieved both them last week. However, my father in law (who also lives with me) has not changed his CHL and from what I can tell, he doesn't have any intentions to. Is he obligated to update his CHL?
Re: Change in Zip
The law says you have to do a change of address if you move. If your father in law didn't move then it looks like he's right.
