Your grass is not worth prison time

Post by seamusTX »

In Ohio, in 2006, a man who was around 63 years old at the time fatally shot a 15-year-old boy who was walking on his lawn.

He was found guilty of homicide and sentenced to at least 18 years in prison (do the math).

Today he committed suicide in prison.

This type of incident (lawn rage?) happens about once a decade in the U.S. Every such incident is one more straw on the proverbial camel's back.

I run across people all the time that I think would make a dumb mistake like this guy. I try and reason with them, but there is more dumb firearms related information out there than you can shake a stick at. Everything from "if you shoot them outside your house be sure to drag the body inside" to "the first shot goes over their head as a warning and the next one goes through them". I try and tell people that if they decide to carry, they must prepare themselves ahead of time for any scenario they may face so they will know how/when they should react. I tell them to study and know the law or do not carry, unfortunately many refuse the advice. I try and read as much as possible and prepare myself so I will not make a dumb mistake that will cost me prison time.

Killing a man for walking on your lawn? That's wrong.

Now... ...my wife catches you walking in her flower beds, and all bets are off. :smilelol5:

Agreed. I've got a couple of neighbors tht I wouldn't try, though.

I get a little peeved when I find that folks walking their dogs let them leave a load for me to pick up, but I haven't drawn down on any of them yet.

My biggest issue is with the blower users that blast their trimmings all over the neighborhood (away from their yard of course). Again, my response is to get out the broom and sweep up the new stuff and toss it in the trash can. I hope that is not considered "escalation"!

I shot a neighbor and her dog for pooping in my yard. I was coming out of the gate from the backyard while her little poop monster was in the middle of its business by my driveway. She didn't see me and the dog was busy. Turned on the hose, with the FIRE HOSE adapted and let her have it...all the way across the front of my house. She called the cops, they came and talked to me...saw the evidence...wrote HER a ticket and made her come get the poop.

I could care less about my grass, but the local grocery store gives you the perfect bag to scoop the poop. Maybe she will use it next time.

THat was 3 years ago and she still GLARES at me when we see each other. I always smile and wave. I hope it makes her fume as bad as that pile was in my yard.

Heh.

The place where we lived in Illinois, most houses did not have fences. The neighbors' dog came over and dropped a load that must have been 10% of its body weight. I went to their house and asked the lady who answered the door if she wanted to come and get it or where she would like me to put it. If looks could kill, I would have been R.I.P. twenty years ago.

I think it was Benjamin Franklin who said "Good Fences Make For Good Neighbors" or something like that.

That said, when we moved in, three or four of our neighbors, each owning multiple dogs, were using our yard to fertilize. This was not an occasional event, it was daily. I never complained to them. I did however have a three rail corral fence with dog wire sandwiched between the posts installed.

Problem solved.

It was Robert Frost, but he used the phrase ironically.

Nobody in our neighborhood had fences at that time. It was a pleasant, open environment. We only had problems with two people who couldn't wrap their heads around the concept of keeping their dogs under control.

This reminds me of the old Joe Walsh lyrics. "And every Saturday we work in the yard. Pick up the dog doo. Hope that it's hard."

There's a reason my camera system's primary monitor is right next to the sprinkler control box. :evil2:
