Slide holsters: worth it in TX

Down here, between heat, humidity and having to keep the weapon covered, are slide holsters worth the investment? I'm thinking about a simple, kydex-reinforced leather slide for days I don't have to be in shirt & tie (have a Comp-Tac on the way for that), but before I drop the coin on one, I wanted an opinion.

This would be for my officer 1911, so with a longer-tailed shirt, the protruding barrel shouldn't be a problem.

I like this type of holster for casual carry BUT, be aware of rivets on jeans or shorts. They will scratch the gun badly if the protruding muzzle comes in contact with them.

Agree w/ HV. THat holster looks like it is worth the $30.00. I have worn them. Very concealable.

I'm quite satisfied with my Don Hume J.I.T. and First Agent holsters for 1911 and/or XD carry. They're in that same price range from Midway. Check 'em out.

One thing to keep in mind with any holster that doesn't cover the entire barrel of the gun is that barrels get really hot when guns are fired. When the gun is placed back in the holster, this can produce either discomfort or a significant burn, depending on what type and how much material is between the barrel and your skin. This is really important to keep in mind with IWB holsters, and is worth thinking about with slide holsters if you wear them with slacks or shorts made of relatively thin material.

Another consideration with slide holsters is that firing residue from the muzzle and adjacent areas will rub off the gun and onto your clothes.

Don't ask me how I know these things.

A great holster resource by Carlson that was locked was where I looked, bhlstore, the 5th one down is a good site. Got it from there and excellent quality, more than I expected.

Don Hume JIT and High Noon both are pretty good slides in about that same price range.
