DPS License Renewal - Local Govt Comedy

Post by joseywales »

Classic - Another "WHO'S ON FIRST" with local government policy & staff.

One of my sons needed to renew his TEXAS driver license today.
We drive over to the local office, he fills out the questionnaire, stands in line for eye test & photo, and the first question out of the clerks mouth is...

Clerk: What is your social security number?
SON: Uhhhhhhhh...long silence....Dad?
ME: WHY DO YOU NEED THAT?

Clerk: Our computer system only pulls it up by SSN.
ME: Can't you pull up his driver license information by his TEXAS Driver License Number?

Clerk: No, we have to have the SSN.
ME: If I get pulled over by a DPS officer on the highway, how does he lookup my TEXAS Driver License "record"?

Clerk: I don't know, I guess by name, address, or TEXAS Driver License number.
ME: Hmmm, can you pull up my son's record by his name, address, or TEXAS Driver License number?

Clerk: Our computer system only pulls it up by SSN.
ME: OK, WHAT IF HE DOESN"T HAVE A SSN?

Clerk: Then you have to sign an affidavit.
ME: So after signing an affidavit, THEN how would you pull up my son's TEXAS Driver License "record".

Clerk: Oh, then we would pull up the TEXAS driver license "record" by name or address or TEXAS Driver License number.
ME: SO WHY DO YOU NEED HIS SSN?

Clerk: Because our computer system only pulls it up by SSN.

Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

P.S.
Son has new homework assignment - memorize SSN & TDL#. Test tomorrow. Pass or give me the keys kiddo.

Glad to hear that the DPS is hiring but can't they raise the qualifications to at least have STARTED high school? Why must they make things so difficult? And charge you for the honor...and make you wait in THAT LINE!!!

Urrgghhhh
