A video of an interview with "Gus" is here:

Interesting to compare what Gus said versus how his quotes are written in the accompanying article -- they are not word for word. Not big changes, but almost every written quote is a little bit off from what he actually said.
I suppose his shotgun is in a police property room, unlikely to be seen again, especially if he did not have a permit, or it was out of date. I hope he has another one tucked away...

Well, it's nearly impossible to legally carry a handgun there.seamusTX wrote: Their attitude about people who carry unlicensed handguns is entirely different.
Props to the guy for dispatching the bad guys, and this is a drag that they are trying to charge him with a weapons violation. Ridiculous. I guess they'd rather he just get robbed unimpeded.

Re: NY: Store owner hits four robbers with three shots
There is another article somewhere (don't have it at my fingertips) in which Gus says he does have a permit for the shotgun. They also ask him if he has ANOTHER shotgun (which I wondered, and hope he does, since the cops no doubt have the one he used). He answered, "I'm not going to tell you that."mr.72 wrote:... and this is a drag that they are trying to charge him with a weapons violation. Ridiculous. I've been tracking this story. I saw the article where the man said he had a permit. I'm assuming that since he hasn't been arrested, his paperwork is in order.

and why do they put sights on'em? and why do I miss those winged things flittin' in the air???
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: NY: Store owner hits four robbers with three shots
ELB, many thanks for the follow up. The comments are a good read itself. Here's but a few of the comments and their mindset:
"Ammunition used in this case would be an overlooked aspect of this story. My guess is “pumpkin balls” or 00 buck.
But that’s how distant and unacquainted the average new yorker probably is by now with general fire arms interest. That will surely be discussed most everywhere else in this country."
And another:
"“If every robbery turned out like this one, you’d soon have no crime in NY.” But then Bloomberg (who has taxpayer paid, 24×7 ARMED SECURITY) would have to stop making it so expensive and almost impossible for LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS (like this store owner) to get a permit. Wake up Times readers: CRIMINALS don’t care about “permits”; so why does Bloomberg make it harder for lawful citizens to defend themselves?"
"And the liberals want to shut the 2nd amendment down. This is a perfect textbook case of why we need the right to defend ourselves. Lets see the blues spin this. I’m very interested."
There are 35 pages of comments, many like the above. I don't think I even want to go to NYC, much less live there. Never been there, never will.
