Boat: Maybe, though I've never needed one.

One in a car or truck? I don't get it...

If I'm going to a new place, maps work fine.

I rode with someone once who had one that talked, i.e., "turn left, turn right, etc." it was annoying as heck.

If I couldn't find my way without one I'd find an alternative...

Now, get off my lawn!

All a GPS has to do once in its long life is to find your hotel for you late at night. It does that once and its paid for itself

:iagree:

GPS lets me keep my eyes on the road instead of being one of those rolling hazards trying to read a map in traffic. Especially after dark.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

:iagree: but I really do like driving in the dark and the GPS giving me a "heads up" on an upcoming curve. I rarely driving with my GPS locally and I already don't have my home address as my home address so I am not too worried.

One use of the "nearest gas station" button in some parts of west Texas pays for the unit.

One use of the "nearest hospital" button, and it's paid for several times over. Sure, you could call an ambulance, but in an unfamiliar area, how do you tell them where you are? For that matter, do you know you're not just a block from the nearest minor emergency clinic already?

Make that another person that carries the info. I don't keep anything with any identifier in my car.

Because of this subject, I was looking at my Street Atlas software the other day, and found that I had a little map tag planted on my neighborhood that said "home." I put it there a while back to ease my own routing and completely forgot it was there. It wouldn't have identified my house, that granularity is not available, and it didn't have the street address, but it sure narrowed things down.

I changed the tag to read "Come here, get shot." :smilelol5:
