In Washington state, in July, a woman filed a restraining order against her 47-year-old former "boyfriend" after he allegedly threatened her.
Last week he allegedly killed her by shooting her three times in the back with a shotgun.
He immediately surrendered to police who saw the shooting and is in jail with $50 million bail. He has not yet been charged.
He is a former police officer who left the force because of disability. He is also reportedly under investigation by the FBI for fraud.

This is, sadly, a frequent occurrence. Restraining orders don't work and often enrage the subject of the restraining order.

Fear, anger, hatred, and greed. The devil's all-you-can-eat buffet.
Re: WA: Fatal failure of restraining order
People are not informed on how little a restraining order does, and what little it allows the cops to do. People should get Protective orders. That helps alot more.

Re: WA: Fatal failure of restraining order
These things vary by state. This case was in Washington, and I have no idea how restraining orders are supposed to work there.
I think the fact that the man was willing to shoot his ex-girlfriend in front of police officers and other witnesses shows that pieces of paper do not stop deranged killers.
