DMV (DPS) person recognised my CHL

I never really learned WHAT it was called. My whole family just simply called it "the driver's license place". We never were confused or had any problems over it.

I spent the first half my life in Massachussetts, I was surprised how easy it is here. I have renewed several times, and I can almost call the experiance pleasant. I guess things are a little different in Galveston County than they are on the northern frontiers of Houston. I even did the written driving test for a class B in less than 45 minutes. The people were always pleasant, helpful and well .. Texas friendly.

Well if you really want to irritate someone, the DMV is coming to Texas oN Nov 1. Check the TxDOT home page and it says so:

The DMV will take over the license plate and title functions from TxDOT. It would be my guess that they will get the DL section of DPS soon also, but it did not go through this legislature.

I have clips for my pistol, and magazines for my AR.

A clip is fully recessed into the weapon when inserted. A magazine extends externally from the weapon when inserted.

Now, if you have a magazine for your pistol, that's something I'd like to see.

Hmmm...Are you sure about that? I guess the 7 or 8 round magazines I use in my 1911 are actually "clips" since they fit flush, but the 10 round is truly a magazine 'cause it hangs out the bottom? Nah!

Clip is probably one of the most abused gun related terms in our vocabulary. The term "clip" most likely is a throwback to when military rifles were loaded with with a stripper clip; a piece of spring steel onto which cartridges were clipped in place. With the bolt held open on a rifle, the stripper clip is inserted through a slot on the bolt, and cartridges are forced into the magazine by "stripping" them from the clip using pressure from your thumb or finger.

A clip is used to hold cartridges and is used to charge the built in magazine into a gun. For example a Springfield 03, Mauser 98k, SMLE Enfield, Mauser C-96, M1 Garand. The term "clip" is more recognizable as a "stripper clip".

Not a whole lot of pistols that I can think of are clip fed. In fact, only one.

Yep, it means they're beating loose bullets into some old SKS strippers because it was cheaper than buying magazines and cartridges. After all, if they're carrying a Glock, they need all the extra money they can get for bling.

Another great thing about living in a small town: DL renewal is about 15-20 minutes from walking in to walking out. About the only way they could improve it more is to print the new license on-site. Car registration down at the tax assessor's office is even faster. I've spent longer in the drive-thru line at Whataburger.

this reminds me ...
when i lived in Houston and i needed to register or get tags for an auto , i would go to the courthouse annex
where you had to park wayyy out and go in and stand in the cattle line for 30 minutes to an hour .

when i moved to Tomball ...popualtion..less than 10,000
i pulled up to the front door , walked right in , and proceeded directly to the clerk .

i love small town living .

Juat to be a contrarian, and one who keeps with tradition, I'm still going to call it the "driver's license place", but will recognize the new name DMV. So there.
