Any Plinking Ranges in/around Houston?

Post by Purplehood »

I have gotten my son interested in shooting his Marlin .22 LR. I intend to try and increase the enjoyment factor of his shooting-experience by letting him shoot at cans or other targets where you actually see the results as you fire. Visual-gratification.
Any suggestions?

Most ranges don't allow plinking (cans, bottles, etc.) because of slob behavior by many plinkers. Our gun club had to ban plinking because the plinkers wouldn't clean up after themselves. You might want to look for a swinging metal target it gives instant feedback and visual gratification without leaving rubbish behind.

American Shooting Center has two lanes for shooting steel targets. But you better get their early.

It's a ways from Houston, but I've found the Municipal Range in Texas City as a great place to shoot. They only allow target shooting, but they are anal about safety, and a bunch of personable people - very good at helping out and answering questions. I find it very pleasurable and well worth my trip.
