In Trouble Again - Market Hall Gunshow

Post by QB »

I had my last FNH FS2000 up for sale because I was going to get a cheaper .223/5.56 rifle (I hardly ever shoot .223 but wanted to have at least one in that caliber). I had feelers out for a Remington 7615 pump .223 rifle or maybe a Mini-14.

Then I purchased a M77 MKII Stainless Compact Bolt Action that's on it's way so I thought my "buying" was over with.

Today I took my FS2000 to the Dallas Market Hall Gunshow and sold it. When I was at my car giving the buyer a bill of sale, I should have just gotten in my car and gone home with my money. But "ohhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooo", couldn't do that. Went in and purchased a S&W M&P15VTAC :nono:

So now I've replaced my FS2000 with two rifles and have more money in both of them than I did in my FS2000 :smash:

Oh well, I tried to do the right thing and thin the herd but I just couldn't do it

I don't yet have my M77 but here's the M&P15 VTAC. Installed a cheap little vertical grip I had laying around (will get a folding one), an Aimpoint H-1 Micro optic and an X200 light. It came with a Surfire G2 and a light mount but I don't really like the mount and had an extra X200. I'm also using my Urban E.R.T. sling rather than the VTAC sling. I have it set up for shooting left handed.

Specs:
Chrome lined 16" barrel with 1:7 twist, M4 profile
SureFire flash hider
JP/VTAC free-floating modular hand guard
Forged 7075 T6 aluminum A3 flat-top upper receiver
Forged 7075 T6 aluminum lower receiver
JP single stage match trigger and speed hammer
6 position receiver extension tube
VLTOR mod-stock, collapsible

It is extremely light and balances great. I think I'm going to really like this rifle because it just "feels" right. Will post a range report in a few weeks.

Would like to go back to the gunshow for a few accessories but I don't dare! Plus I'd have to pay another $8 and it's easier to just order accessories on the internet.

:woohoo

Just wait until you get the M77...

It's a keeper, if you're a hunter. They are not range gun/hole punchers, but they are extremely good at doing what hunting rifles are designed to do. I just picked up a stainless M77 .243 a couple of weeks ago, with a Boyds laminated stock, and I am one happy camper. I'm still looking for the magic load for 100 grainers that will shoot sub-moa, but since I have found 80's that will more than do that... every time... I know I will find the perfect match. It's another gun that my grandson has already called "dibbs" on when I die....not that he's trying to rush anything

some guns come... and they go... but the really good ones will always stay, and stay, and stay.....

congrats on some really good pick-ups!

Actually I've never hunted but that's not to say I wouldn't like to some time. I just thought wanted to add a bolt action to my little collection. I may very well not shoot the M77 and end up selling it but that's yet to be determined. I don't have a scope to put on it and not sure now that I want to purchase one. But I don't know yet what I'll do.....I'm sure I'm going to like it when it comes in and so it will go in my safe until I decide whether or not I'm going to shoot it. I hadn't planned on buying the M&P15 VTAC so now my plans may have changed a little.

Just a follow-up on the M77 MKII...........although I haven't shot her yet, she's a keeper just from the looks and feel of the rifle. That smooth stainless is just gorgeous. Can't wait to get to the range.

You're gonna love the M77. Be sure you make your first range trip with both 80 grain and 100 grain loads. After you get it "on paper", don't worry a lot about the bullseye, just maintain same POA and watch for groups with each load. I would be real interested in what you find shoots tighter groups.

All of my .223 ammo is 55 gr so it looks like I need to go buy some different ammo for the M77. I hope to get to the range sometime in October and will post my results.

Thanks for the info.
