Took class, paid fees, changed my mind. I want constitutional carry.

I got outed in the middle of a recording studio by one of the guitar players in a band. nearly broke his fingers (on the left hand, of course).USA1 wrote:now that's just wrong .garcia946 wrote: but he tells people that I have one too.
I was just sitting there, minding my p's and q's, and he blurts (with no prompting, or provocation), "You better watch ______, he's got a gun."
I was like
then the engineer says, "No biggie, I have a glock under the control panel."
the numbskull just sat there with this somewhat dumbfounded look.
Engineer and I went on to have many a great conversation bout stuff. kinda funny how it turned out...
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Re: Any bone-head CHLers?
I've had those kind of conversations with strangers at small gun stores. A guy is buying a gun, and the clerk asks in a normal pitched voice if he has a CHL. The customer says "no." About 3 or 4 guys standing around within hearing distance all chuckle and say, "you should get one." That's how those conversations get started.shootthesheet wrote:I think the only real time I hear it is in the process of gun sales. However I will say that I would not have one now if not for a guy I know, and never suspected at all of having one, telling me about CHL. That is why I will talk about CHL with anyone who is interested in guns or talks about crime. I don't yell it out but I do tell people about CHL and try to not confirm having a CHL in the process unless I know the person well.

I personally have no problem telling someone I have a CHL. I regularly encourage others to get one too.
I don't think that makes me a bone-head.

Re: Any bone-head CHLers?
Many moons ago, someone on the forum from the Austin area IIRC,
said that he knew an older lady that got her CHL.
She brought her pistol out on 2 occasions within the first week or two
of receiving her plastic. One time was for racoons, the other for some
other spurious reason.
She said "I'm glad I got my CHL. I've already had to use it twice in a short
time."
If the original poster of that story reads this entry, feel free to clarify or

Re: Any bone-head CHLers?
Guys,
I certainly understand wanting to shout, "I GOT MY PLASTIC!!" I took the course in March, mailed my app in May, got 2 bogus "detailed letters" and just got my plastic in the mail. It was the most exciting thing in my life and I couldn't tell anyone. It did feel good to show it to the guy at Cabela's when I bought my revolver a couple of days ago. There needs to be a smiley holding a big card with C H L written on it.

Maybe I am a little over protective (if that is the correct way to put it) of my CHL status but I don't tell anyone that I have one. My wife, brother and a very good friend who is a federal LEO are the only individuals that know. For me, I think it is better that way. Heck, when I do a transaction with my FFL I will give him the CHL , but if I make a purchase at a gun/big box store, I will let them do the NICS.

Re: Any bone-head CHLers?
I believe the difference is in how it is being brought up. If someone is saying they are carrying to brag and act like a tough guy or big shot, they are definitely a BONEHEAD. If it is just coming up in a conversation while talking weapons for one reason or the other, but not in a bragging way, that is very different...IMHO. I ran into a guy at a Wally World while looking for ammo. We spoke briefly about lack of ammo and how it makes it hard to get practice. Somehow the short conversation came around to him mentioning he wanted to get his CHL and he ask if I had one. I said yes... The conversation then turned into ways of carrying...the gentleman was wanting to learn more about it all so I spoke of different carry methods. He then asked if I was carrying because he could not tell if I was. I said yes as I patted on my three clock and said it was hiding under my love handle. Nothing in the whole situation was loud or bragging.... Just one human trying to share info with another. I sent him to this sight, by the way.

Re: Any bone-head CHLers?
Last year about a month after Ike came through I was at Academy looking at guns. This dude walks up to the counter with a fanny pack and asks to see a pistol out of the case. The associate put it on the counter and the dude pulls out his gun to compare the two. The associate's jaw almost hit the counter and told the guy that he could get in serious trouble for that. The guy responded "Don't worry, I have a CHL" and pulled it out to show him. Needless to say he was told to leave the store. I tried to avoid the parking lot for a while after that... NOT a good move.
