Kholster smell

Is it just me or does a new Kholster smell bad/wierd? I got mine and put it in the safe, then the whole safe smelled bad. Almost a ketchup/rank smell.

So I left it in the garage for about 2 weeks now and it still smells the same.

Anyone else? And any ideas what to do to get rid of the smell? I can't wear it.

Soap and water + elbow grease?

Or some synthetic safe gun scrubber + elbow grease.

Hmmmm.....USA1 has a kholster and has never mentioned a stinky holster. He'd be a good one to ask.

Maybe it's the left over chemical residue used in the tanning process? I dunno.

i just went and sniffed mine . it did have a smell at first , but has worn off after several weeks .
its the smell of raw hide fresh off the cow .

Depending on his leather source, the supplier could be getting some leather that they have tanned with substances that can leave an odor. It will not come out until the leather has been moist or if it gets wet then dries. There have been rare cases of leather being bought that was found to be tanned with urine, but I think that is not legal to import. However, I am sure some of it gets through. Talk about a bad smell.

I did some searching and found others with the same Kholster smell issue. One person reported "being made" while carrying with the holster. He was made by several dogs in a park who kept coming up and smelling the holster! They must have thought that he was concealed carrying an IWB doggy treat.

when i noticed the smell , in the back of my mind i thought it smelled like a freshly killed animal or something.
i know that sounds gross .

i think it has something to do with how "raw" the leather is . i have never seen leather this un-processed .

I would call the company. Let them know the smell is so bad you can't use it. See what they are willing to do. They may have a way to neutralize the odor. They may be willing to replace the leather with a less smelly piece especially as it seems that not alll their holsters are as bad.

I sent them an email but from their website looks like they've "gone fishing". I'll probably have to return it if I can't come up with a solution.

I wonder if just running it through a non-soap dishwasher cycle would help based on the water/dry suggestion above.

personally , i wouldn't . it might make it worse .

maybe just give it some more time to dry out .
