I guess they decided they don't need any more tourist dollars to help rebuild.

Thanks for posting the link Bashful. :tiphat: Interesting reading.

La. is getting slammed with applications like Texas, and are now allowing 120 days for processing.
it looks like their qualifications are more stringent than Texas. You have to take an NRA safety course on top of a CHL class.
Louisiana has reciprocity with all but 11 states.

They issued the statement, but on the same page at their State Police website, they failed to change the color of the reciprocity map from yellow (good) to purple (bad) for Florida! "rlol"

Also, I find it strange and curious that they are so tough on rules for CHL in LA.

They were one of the first States to authorize "gun in car" as legal, long before CHL was even thought about! They always considered the car an extension of your home which allowed this. It was not a stupid "traveling" Law like Texas either!

My brother is in Shreveport.. and he's caught up in this. There are a lot of folks living in LA carrying on a Florida or Utah permit. He's hearing that this will also impact folks with a non-resident Utah permit soon...

Ask you brother to check the laws (not just take someone's opinion, LEO or not). The Carry Concealed in the Car may still be on the books and no license is needed for that at all.

Not to resurrect an old, dead thread -- but the situation is worse than described in Louisiana...

Recently moved to Louisiana from Texas. Changed my address on my Texas CHL to my new residence, which automatically converted it to a non-resident Texas CHL. Now, I find out that Louisiana doesn't recognize ANY NON-RESIDENT licenses and my Texas CHL is worthless here.

Obviously accelerating my plan to get a Louisiana CHP, but it's frustrating. To save a few dollars and circumvent paying their own state any fees (my understanding as the motivation for getting Florida permits here), folks may have precipitated a bunch of issues for people just establishing new residency. Yes, there's open carry -- but in an major urban area only if you like being unfairly harassed by the law. Even with a Louisiana license, there's no rule like the 30.06 signage, no carrying in a place of worship without extra requirements, and you must seek permission of the owner before entering a private residence. I miss Texas!

This is not exactly correct. Louisiana will honor all non-resident permits from states that honor Louisiana, UNLESS you are a resident of Louisiana, then you must have a Louisiana permit.

You are correct. I apologize for the omission -- I was writing from the perspective of a new Louisiana resident. As such, state law will not honor a non-resident license from another state. If you have a non-resident license and are a resident of a different state (e.g. a Texas resident with a Utah license), you are fine. Part of the same change also eliminated the issuance of non-resident license by Louisiana, at least as historically explained to me by a local attorney and FFL.

[Edited to correct grammar.]

it would really be nice if there were a.....transition period....ya know? When we moved to TX, we were immediately required to let CO know, they wanted their lic. back imm....That's great, but we had to save up a bit and get 2 lic here in TX...(along with setting up a new home)

That sounds like an incentive to hold on to Texas tags, DL and CHL as long as possible. There are tons of Louisiana vehicles all over Texas, some of them probably moved after Katrina and still don't have Texas paper, so it sounds like a little sauce for the goose is only fair.

As long as you can still "produce" LA residency, there's your loophole. I could've done just that, but decided to just get the TX tags (etc) done... except for one vehicle (not working) that's still registered in LA.
