Anyone else ready to just give up?

Post by hbkkicker »

Ok, so I have called and talked to a supervisor after being griped at by one of the other employees at the DPS office and was told all I can do is to wait. I told them that it will be almost 100 days and there are numerous people receiving theirs that took their class a month later than I did. They just said there is nothing they can do and that I dont need to call and check the status and basically to leave them alone and I will get it when I get it.... Can you believe that? I am about ready to just quit checking and give up and see if it shows up sometime before the year is up. O well, very frustrating and cant seem to get any help from anyone that I have talked to.

hb, I feel your pain. It has been 89 days since DPS received your application.

I feel you are MOST justified in calling AND emailing not only your State Representative but your State Senator and have them start working to get your license to you.

Several did just that in late July and into August and had remarkable results.

It's worth a shot, and you know by experience that it doesn't do much good to call DPS, so why not?

Good luck to you! :tiphat:

Isn't this campaigning time for some of 'em? Write 'em and ask what else they're going to do for you after they free up your CHL.

I really feel for you, dude. I was so frustrated waiting for my CHL to arrive I too felt like giving up and forgetting about it. It took five months for mine to arrive. I got a letter from DPS saying I had left out a page of the application and I had to send that in. I know that delayed my application somewhat. Calm down and just wait - that's the only advice I can give. That's what others told me to do. It will come eventually. :banghead:

Contact your State Representative. It did wonders for me. Mine hit 100 days and I had my plasic in hand 10 days after I contacted her. :clapping:

It's an old story, but Mrs. Oldgringo was put off for 160 days with some {horsefeathers} about her fingerprints. After submission of her fourth (4th) set of fingerprints simultaneously with letters to State Senator, Gov., Lt. Gov. and CHL Manager, her plastic arrived in less than a week.

for a long time , Harris county was a big problem .
lately ,from what i've heard , Galveston county seems to be just as bad .

the problem is that gulf coast counties are more densely populated resulting in longer processing times .

:iagree:

That and the fact I was told that the greatest concentration of CHL's in Texas is down the I-45 corridor between Webster and Galveston. (Including League City and Friendswood)

One of Ike's after effects I think .

Unfortunately Galveston County also drag their feet with the background checks.....but it will come. :tiphat:

Took class in mid January, got plastic in late May.

Don't give up. (I worked in Galveston county and lived in Harris county, so I was double "cursed").

You waited 100 days? I mailed everything into the DPS in JANUARY, but just got my CHL a couple of weeks ago. I waited NINE (9) months!!! (argh!)

Which cities have you lived/worked in within the last 5 years? I called them and asked them about it and they told me that the application is held up because they have to wait for each police department in each city of your residence to contact them back with the background check. HOUSTON is the slowest city. They told me that if I had just applied with only Sherman (or some other small town that is 2nd amendment friendly), it would only take me 2-3 months to receive my CHL. My question to you is, do you live in Houston or some other city that is not 2nd amendment friendly such as Ft Worth or Austin? It may not be the DPS's fault, but the sheriff of the town of your residence's fault.

By the eighth month, I was calling my lawyer to perhaps sue them for purposely delaying my application as an obstruction to my 2nd amendment rights. However, my lawyer told me to chill out. He also waited over 8 months.

Cheer up, you'll get it sooner or later! Meanwhile, at least you can keep a gun in your car legally, you can open carry rifles, you can keep guns in your home, and you have a castle doctrine in Texas. These freedoms that you already enjoy are not available to comrades in Kalifornia, NYC, nor Washington DC. Meanwhile, go to some Friends of the NRA banquets/auctions and win some raffles for limited edition guns. Maybe that'll cheer you up.

:cheers2:
