GOP activist resigns after party member's shooting-range incident

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Republican activist Ed Napolitano has resigned all his Republican Party positions and apologized to U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., over an incident at the Southeast Republican Club on Oct. 6, when the Napolitano-led club met at a gun range.

At the event, Robert Lowry, a Republican seeking his party's nomination to run against Wasserman Schultz next year, shot at a target with the letters "DWS" next to the silhouette head.

Lowry initially described it as a "joke," but later said it "was a mistake."

On Friday, Napolitano said he wasn't aware of what happened with the target that night, but it "was stupid. It was reckless. It was ridiculous. I wouldn't want Democrats doing that to our candidates."

Napolitano resigned as president of the Southeast Republican Club, Republican committeeman and membership chairman of the county Republican Party.

That is not a mistake. I would consider that an attempt at intimidation at the least & possibly a definate threat.

All of the above plus INFANTILE. It seems as if the Republican Party is bent on suicide...everywhere.

Well, I will register my opinion.

I think it is insane to shoot at any target that can be identified with a living person other than Osama bin Laden or similar characters, whom you obviously have no access to in the United States. The vague definitions of assault and terroristic-threat laws make this problematic.

At the same time, the tendency in politics to blow each booger and hairball into a major issue is tiresome.

Absolutely. Why go out of our way to draw negative publicity? There is enough unwarranted scrutiny and comment without feeding the fires of the gun-haters.
