Range Report ... Marksman 10/23/2009

Post by Kevinf2349 »

Another Friday, another range visit.

After having spent the morning running errands (Annual Vet visit for the hound (she passed with flying colors :thumbs2: ) , some home stuff and a doctors visit) we decided to visit Markman and deposit some lead into their establishment as we were 'up that way'.

We got to the range around 2:30 and there was only a handful of people in there so we tackled up. I was quite keen to go there as I was going to shot my Mossberg 500 for the very first time (I bought it in May! so I think I showed great self control).

We took all the guns but didn't shot the Glock conversion kit (not sure why not, but just never got around to it).

I love me some Glock 30. That bad boy is accurate and running like a dear. Popped about a 100 rounds through that :fire

My wife wanted to try and shoot with one hand and so she did. She did very well but she felt better shooting the Glock 19 over the XD9. The good part about that is that she carries the 19 as her CC weapon. Without a doubt she shoots that XD9 more accutately (tighter groups) but her G19 groups are definately acceptable.....even one handed. :thumbs2: All told we blasted about a 150 rounds through the guns.

We only ran 30 through the Bersa and that really seems to be settleing in (only two FTFs and that was with the same round) :headscratch

Now to the shotgun :hurry:

I set the full body target up at 7 yards and loaded up with 7.5 shot (Winchester Super Target 12 ga.). I was expecting a big kick but was pleasantly surprised at how little recoil and how accurate the Mossberg was. The hardest part for me was remembering to rack the next shell into the chamber! Semi autos definately spoil you! The 10 shells were all definately in the kill zone (within the 8 ring) and my wife even passed comment at how much quieter it was than she was expecting. Last time we were at the Marksman range there were some people shooting shotguns and they were LOUD.

I think my wife has a picture of the target after it got in the way of shotgun so I will add that when she passes it to me.

Here is a picture of the target I shot at 7 yards with the XD9. This is 30 rounds at the distance.

The Springfield is a really accurate gun and is a great target pistol but we neither of us like it as a concealed carry weapon as it is too big.

Now the really good news....my wife wants me to buy another gun for her. I am thinking of a LCP but I am not too sure what to actually get yet.

All told it was a great time (again) at Markman and I am begining to think that my wife thinks this range it the best one for her too.

All guns are cleaned and ready for carry again.....and all my records are up to date! "rlol" "rlol"

I hear ya clucking there big chicken. It sure is a lot of fun watching the target disappear in fron of your eyes!

I was really surprised by the lack of recoil, everyone was telling me it would dump me on my asspirations but it really didn't kick very much.....I may even consider putting a pistol grip on it (it came with one supplied) and trying it with that on inside of the stock.

The good lady is going to shoot it next time we go....she chickened out this time around.
