2009 Mayoral Candidates: Houston

Post by TLE2 »

I'm having trouble finding anything out about the mayoral candidates, especially their 2A stands. Anybody have any information or sources?

Thanks,

There doesn't appear to be a whole lot out there, but I did find this questionaire posted on the Harris County GOP website. Now, before I get flamed from some of you, I also extensively searched the DEM website, but they didn't have anything like the questionaire on the GOP site. There wasn't any information on 2A stance, that I could find. However, some of the other questions that were posed were rather interesting, IMO.

For those that are interested, following is a condensed analysis of the proposed constitutional ammendments, with pro & con comments as prepared by the staff of the Texas Legislative Council (David Dewhurst, Joe Straus and Joanna Peavy).

TLWV is the first place I went. In the past they have published fair assessments of the platforms of various candidates.

I just can't find such info on the Houston mayoral race.

I'm not too worried about their RKBA stance considering state preemption and the 30.06 exclusion for government property.

I'm reading this and i seriously have to wonder if The Socialist Canidate is a joke or not
AMANDA ULMAN

Please describe your education, your occupation, and the training and
experience that qualify you for this position. (50 word limit)

I am a garment factory worker and have two decades of activity with the Socialist Workers Party in support of workers and farmers struggles the world over that strengthen our unity and confidence in the battle to eliminate capitalist exploitation and oppression.

How would you prioritize the current needs facing Houston? (60 word limit)

The problems that working people are facing here and around the world stem from the capitalist system of exploitation, which is going through the deepest crisis in living memory. Working people need to answer the assaults on our class by taking power out of the hands of the ruling rich and reorganize society in the interests of workers and farmers.

How would you manage maintenance and improvement of the city’s
infrastructure (water and sewer lines, roads and bridges, etc.)? (60 word limit)

My campaign demands and fights for a massive federally-funded public works program to employ millions at union-scale wages that can be used to build public transportation and infrastructure as well as quality, affordable public housing, hospitals, and more, to meet the needs of all working people.

What initiatives would you take to coordinate public health and safety resources in the event of a future crisis, e.g. an epidemic similar to the H1N1 virus, or a hurricane or other natural disaster, or other emergency? (60 word limit)

The consequences of natural disasters and man-made crises fall heaviest on the working class. My campaign proposes universal public health care in one public system where disability benefits, retirement pensions, and health care for life are available for everyone regardless of their citizenship status. Cuba’s world-class health care and emergency response record shows what a socialist

I am half tempted to vote for her out of irony and morbid curiosity.
