Woman fatally shoots car burglar

A woman fatally shot a suspected car burglar Monday night in the parking lot of her northwest Houston apartment complex, police said.

The woman told Houston police she shot the man about 9 p.m. after she spotted him breaking into her car parked outside the apartment in the 5900 block of Pinemont at Alabonson.

The man still had a screwdriver in his hand when the woman opened fire with a shotgun. The door lock to her car also had been popped open, officers at the scene said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was still being questioned late Monday.

The fatal shooting remains under investigation, Houston police said.

Wonder if she called 911 before handling this herself? I personally would have.
In any case, I do believe she was in the right because it was at night, she believed someone to be tampering with her property perhaps with intent to steal...but since it was outside her property was she still in the right? Because it was a long gun and she was protecting her property (car) I think so.
Kudos to you lady. :)

She confronted a man breaking into her car in the nighttime. He was armed with a screwdriver (which is a weapon). She was prudently armed with a shotgun at the time, and there's no law against carrying a loaded long gun unless one does so with an "intent to alarm".

Morally speaking, there is far too little information to judge. Legally speaking, I think she's golden.

Yet another story that should be on the required reading list for those considering working in the Theft-related Careers.

Everyone can second guess this scenario all day long from every legal and moral position imaginable, except the guy who entered the exciting world of Theft-related Careers. He has been laid off.

The sad thing is that in some other states, the question would be whether or not she could get out of the murder charges.
