A Time For Choosing - Reagan Speech

Post by pdubyoo »

This is Ronald Reagan's speech from when he was endorsing Barry Goldwater for President in 1964. The points he makes in this speech, I feel, couldn't be more relevant to today's situation with the enlightened one's administration's ideology. This is a long speech (28 min), but I was captivated while listening to the whole thing. I wanted to share it with you good folks.

Enjoy!

God, I miss Reagan. He was the last great American president; decreased the size of government with privatization, won the cold war, and defended the 2nd amendment. Wow. He ranks up there with another great American president, Eisenhower.

Eisenhower; stood up to communism WITHOUT increasing the deficit, balanced the budget, and defended freedom in WWII.

I sure miss these two great men. :tiphat:

RWR did a bang up job on that speech allright.

IMHO it should be required listening for all kids in US History.

Somehow, I don't think that would go with the teachers and administrators in many schools today.

That was a different Reagan then the one who served as President.

The one in the video talked about keeping our noses out of other countries problems.

The one that served couldn't seem to spend enough to get involved in every little conflict.

Maybe my memory is rusty, but I seem to recall that Reagan and his buddy the Bradys did a lot of damage to the right to bear arms. Revisionist history can be fun to read, but if Reagan is considered to be gun friendly, we are in a whole lot of trouble.
In March 1991 in a speach he said, "I support the Brady Bill, and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay."
In 1967 as Governor it was he who enacted laws that prohibited having firearms on California in the public and started the gun banning movement in California. Reagan might be well thought of in most conservative circles but it is important to remember he was traitorous to the cause of the Right to Keep and bear arms.
Liberty''s Blog
"Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom." John F. Kennedy

I've not agreed 100% with any contemporary President. The reason for posting the video of the speech was to contrast the leftists of DC then vs. now. Nothing's changed...they're still the same. Same stinch!

I'd say some things have changed. If John F. Kennedy were to run today on exactly the same platform, he would be laughed off the DNC stage, if he was even allowed to speak at all.

This is what should be viewed by all students, a 1948 cartoon called "Make Mine Freedom", produced by Harding College:
