Another wake up call from the UK

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Another wake up call from the UK

Post by TxD »

I think they have lost their bloody minds.

"In a statement read out in court, Mr Clarke said: "I didn't think for one moment I would be arrested. I thought it was my duty to hand it in and get it off the streets."

"A former soldier who handed a discarded shotgun in to police faces at least five years imprisonment for "doing his duty".

"The jury took 20 minutes to make its conviction, and Mr Clarke now faces a minimum of five year's inprisonment for handing in the weapon."

Yes, leave it and report it. Don't worry if meanwhile it grows legs and walks off on its own.

Isn't this the kind of oppression that made the Brits cram the Magna Carta down their governments throats?

The British Ambassador to the U.S. should be expelled and diplomatic relations cut off with the Mother Country. Who needs kinfolk like that? I'd almost rather claim the Germans. Except that right now the U.S. Attorney General, Mr. Politically Correct Eric Holder is more than likely trying to figure out how to import that legal reasoning to American law. :rules:

The jury took 20 minutes to make its conviction
I have to say that this is the most tragic statement in the entire article. It looks like they didn't even debate it.

For quite some time, the UK has had a collective mindset that whatever the law says, is right.

It's getting that way here, too. An American jury was probably do the same thing (or they might hold out for a free lunch before delivering the verdict).

The UK enjoys the same right to jury nullification that American juries enjoy. It's a shame so few jurors know about it, and it's generally forbidden to bring up the topic in court.
