Texas City: Armed robber on the loose

Post by seamusTX »

Around 6:15 p.m. Friday, an armed robber demanded "everything he had" from a motorist in the parking lot of The Oaks apartment complex at 8601 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway in Texas City.

I'm not all that familiar with that part of town, but something makes me think it is not a place where I would want my sister to live.
The victim stepped from his car and confronted the man, [a police spokesman] said.
I wish I knew in more detail what happened there.

The robber fired a couple of shots and made off with the victim's 1998 Toyota Camry, license plate PDX177.

The suspect is described as a black man between 20 and 25 years old, 130 to 150 pounds.

Wow! a 12-year-old Camry. That's a hot ride.

I don't think the plate series is currently valid, either. The ABC 123 series was phased out in the 1980s.

Huh? I'm sitting here looking at two 2008 Chargers with DSTnnn plates. (Sequential, even - fleet cars registered at the same time. The third in that set is off the lot right now, but for whatever reason, its numeric is 140 less than these two.)

Not just fleet vehicles, either: I just took a walk through the rest of the lot and found four other abcnnn plates. (Oddly, including another DSTnnn and two TCFnnn - it's almost like they're trying to make a partial plate with a vehicle description useless information.)

Was the auto a street racer? In that case there may have been several thousands in after market parts. :headscratch :waiting:http://www.carvideosonline.com/toyota-v ... camry.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

P.S the license plate could be a Portland zip code.

I don't know anything beyond what is in the paper.

The Camry is not my idea of a hot-rod platform, but I guess anything is possible.

Yeah. Middle-aged Hondas are the most-stolen cars, because the body parts are in demand for repairs.

My gut tells me that not that much thinking went into this robbery, though.
