TXI, I have much respect for you, but that was a little over the top. You are free to believe what you want, but so is everybody else. Thats the beauty of America.
There's a lot to be said of this topic, and I typed out a lengthy response. However - what I wanted to convey can be shortened quite a bit.
Everyone has the right to believe in what they want. Nobody can force their beliefs on other people. Who am I to tell you, TXI, that you have it all wrong, and that you are going to burn for it?(I don't think that, but for illustrative purposes...). While I am entitled to my opinions, for me to try to force it upon you, is wrong. I don't care if you believe in God, Buddha, Jehovah, Shiva, Nirvanna, or the Holy Grail - its wrong. Just like murder is wrong - period.
I think religion can be a wonderful and a horrible thing. It brings people to fighting just as much as it brings them together. However - one thing that nobody can argue without bringing in abstractions and generalizations - religion is a personal, individual experience that is up to each individual to make their own decisions on. Just as it is an individuals choice to practice the rights given to you by the Second Amendment. If you don't want folks to bash you for being a conscious, responsible adult who cares for his own safety and the safety of others, why would you make negative comments about someone's religion? Its not hurting you.
I say leave it all be. We all believe what we believe and very few will ever budge from that. Respect eachother and it tends to work out in the long run.

Please tell me specifically what was and how that was "over the top".cyphur wrote:TXI, I have much respect for you, but that was a little over the top.
Because you disagree with me does not mean I am trying to FORCE anything on anyone, nor did I say anyone wa going to burn. I have noticed that when consertaive beliefs are argued for, those less conservative cry "you can't force your beliefs on me". Well, tell me how I am forcing anything. Its called a dialog and Discussion. I state my thought and beliefes and you state yours. When I tell you that I disagree with you that does not mean I am forcing anything. You are free to believe what you want, but so is everybody else. Thats the beauty of America.

Ahh, more of the "if you disagree with me you should not say it, or "if it upsets me you should not say it". What negative comment comment did I write?I think religion can be a wonderful and a horrible thing. It brings people to fighting just as much as it brings them together. You just wrote a paragraph declaring a person's right to their own beliefs and opinions, then you attempt to chastise me for doing just that. You are forcing your belief on me! Hey Pot, meet Kettle.

See, we do agree.I say leave it all be. We all believe what we believe and very few will ever budge from that. Respect eachother and it tends to work out in the long run.

At least we agree on something
I wasn't trying to imply that *you* were forcing anything on anyone - just noting that some people think that being goverened by a majority-christian government, when they themselves are not - can be viewed as "highly suggestive". Some call it forceful when you leave God in all the language, when it should be impartial.
Am I personally offended by God in government? Absolutely not. Go for it. I could care less. Like I said - religion can be a wonderful thing.
However, morals are an individual thing - as is religion. I think discourse on religion is great - however arguing about it is futile, wasteful and utterly dividing. Its like trying to aruge over which is better - and green apple or a red apple - does it matter? You like one and I like the other. I just think its important for folks to find SOMETHING to help guide them through life.
And to clear something up - for conservative/liberal - I am neither. I have opinions that land on both ends of the spectrum. Just b/c I am not pro-religion does not mean I am pro-liberal. I agree more with conservatives than I do liberals, FWIW.
