FL: Teen goes to jail for shooting donkey

Post by seamusTX »

In rural, northwestern Florida, a 17-year-old male shot and killed a donkey in May. He was charged as an adult with felony animal cruelty or death, using a weapon during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a minor.

This week he was sentenced to nearly a year in jail plus three months probation.

It's not clear whether he was found guilty of an adult felony or received Florida's version of deferred adjudication.

I find it ironic that he was charged as an adult with possession of a firearm by a minor.

Whatever. Get a rope, we don't need people like that running loose...in Florida or anywhere else. I'm fed up with irresponsible and inconsiderate behavior at all levels of society and government.

Get a rope
You gonna hang 'em or drag 'em, Oldgringo? Either would be in the extreme when all he needs is cuttin' to taek the vinegar out of his blood. No need to go bananas over the death of a donkey.

It's not the death of a donkey. His irresponsible act displays a total disregard for any upbringing he may have had and lack of consideration for humankind in particular and society in general that causes my angst. That coupled with the possibility that he'll walk because of his age. Enough is enough! I'm sick of molycoddlin' criminals, aren't you?

Now then, if the donkey had rabies and was attacking the young gentleman, that is a donkey of another color.

Whatever your position regarding "animal rights," it is often a short step from the wanton destruction of an animal to the wanton destruction of a human being.

I agree that torturing or killing animals is sometimes a step toward sociopathy -- but not always.

Animal rights are not an issue here. If the kid had shot up a truck, he would be charged with felony malicious mischief (in Texas).

BTW, castration doesn't have the intended effect after puberty.

: I cannot answer that question on the grounds that it might tend to incriminate me. :smilelol5:
