Who says she was open-carrying? She might have been parked in a garage and posing.

Re: Texas gubernatorial candidate says end CHL law
She obviously was not in a garage. I suppose it's "possible" she was in a car on her own property -- but that's pretty unlikely. It wasn't "open carry". It was failure to conceal.
(And being in a garage wouldn't matter anyway unless it was on her property.)

Yeah, illegal is illegal. If you dig far enough you hypocrites will find out that you can't go through a whole week without breaking the law somehow, some way.
Ms. Medina was posing for a blessed picture for crying out loud.

So, the next time I want to show my carry piece to someone, I am just gonna make sure they are taking a picture of it.bdickens wrote:Yeah, illegal is illegal. If you dig far enough you hypocrites will find out that you can't go through a whole week without breaking the law somehow, some way.

Seriously, the issue is that she seems to have a FLAGRANT disrespect for SEVERAL laws and is not above showing or telling you she breaks them. As a political candidate, that says she may not follow other guidelines and rules that may be more serious.
I'm just sayin...

Actually, I take a somewhat different approach. I don't see flagrant disrespect, I think it exhibited a lack of knowledge about what the laws are. That seems somewhat dangerous for someone that claims to support a position to be ignorant of the laws regarding that issue.Keith B wrote:So, the next time I want to show my carry piece to someone, I am just gonna make sure they are taking a picture of it.bdickens wrote:Yeah, illegal is illegal. Yeah, everybody speeds, changes lanes without signaling, and perhaps even drives on tires with exposed wear indicators. None of which rise to the level of a Class A Misdemeanor. I still expect my elected officials (and those striving for those positions) to be held to a higher standard.

I love much of what she's running for, but this video was a real disappointment to me.marksiwel wrote:soooooooooooooooooo

As has been hashed out here, she clearly broke the law by intentionally breaking concealment. That demonstrates a serious lack of judgment. One may argue that to abolish a law, everyone should just start disregarding it. I don't think, however, that this is what she was doing. My gut says that she had no idea she was breaking the law, and her display of that ignorance in such a careless fashion is alarming.
Bringing out a firearm is serious business, and you better know what you're doing when you display. Her cavalier handling of the situation was disappointing. I would have preferred that she simply make a verbal reference to her gun, perhaps display the closed zippered case, and leave it at that. Bringing it out, displaying the FMJ rounds in the magazine, etc, it just gives me a sick feeling.
I've been supporting Medina since before she entered the race, but this incident greatly concerns me.

I think Armed Farmer and sjfcontrol are probably right on this. Instead of ignoring the laws, she is just ignorant of them. Just like you guys, this bothers me greatly. She needs some tutoring on firearms and the laws; and who knows what else she is not aware of and should be. Political candidates need to cross every T and dot every I when they are in the limelight. Not doing so can cost them votes.

How many people outside our little club know that it is against the law to show off your handgun to someone? Not very many, I'd bet.

Re: Texas gubernatorial candidate says end CHL law
Her choice of gun gets a thumbs up from me: Bi-tone XD.
I side with the posters who believe that she broke the letter
of the law by breaking concealment, although I appreciate that she
was trying to promote 2A RKBA rights.
She said "I carry everywhere".
False, because she only can carry when she's in her vehicle.
What potential bad guys on the prowl for a nice new XD now know is that she
drives a dark colored Infiniti 4 door, and it will be parked outsider her
next campaign stop. Since she's not CHL, it won't be "on body" with
her, but inside that specific zippered pistol bag.
If she is a truly gracious crime victim, she will provide the car burglar
with some extra ammo and a few backup mags. :-)

Re: Texas gubernatorial candidate says end CHL law
More to the point, it's just simple honesty: Application for a place on the ballot for any public office in Texas requires that one "swear that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of the State of Texas." Hard to do that if you don't know what they are, and if you do but flout them, you're not supporting them.Keith B wrote:I think Armed Farmer and sjfcontrol are probably right on this.
