Moving/Moved Drivers License update before CHL?

Post by Texas Bulldog »

saw a similar thread but my situation is a little different.

I have a Texas Commerical Drivers license (not sure if it matters), I moved from one appartment to another in the same complex so the street address is the same but Apt# is different or course.

I moved a couple days ago and am now settleing down a bit and ready to get my CHL. Possible problem is now that my Drivers License has my old Address as of 3 days ago. So i need to get my Drivers License address changed. Today I updated my address change with USPS to get my mail forwarded here now.

Im assuming i can't get my CHL until i get my new Drivers license in the mail with new address.

Would like to get it done and start carrying but i think im stuck for another month or two while i get my current DL.

Am i correct in this path of thinking?

Thanks for the time

I would think that if you go to your local DPS (drivers lic.) office and update to your new add.
They will give you a temp. paper to carry with old dl. Then your good to go.
But of course I may be very wrong.
Go to the DPS website find the CHL link and call the phone #. They have been helpfull in the past.
Good luck!

Have you taken the class yet? If not, get started on that.

I don't know about CDL but normal DL in Texas you get a paper temporary license immediately if you change your address in person. Either way, just put the new address on your CHL app and you should be fine.

When I recently moved I changed both TDL and DHL address online within just a few moments of each other -- can't recall which I did first.

To my utter surprise I received my new CHL a couple of weeks before my new TDL.

Joe - you do not need to have your new DL in hand. Just get the address changed before you send in the CHL application. As soon as the change is made in the database, you are good to proceed with the CHL app.

When i got my CHL the took my previous DL and issued me a Paper temp... when they did that It left me without a photo ID and i wasn't even allowed to buy a gun. Also for the ONline Address change, I tried yesterday but in the quallifications it states that Commercial drivers license's have to go in person to do the change. I got a feeling that they are going to yank my DL like last time and leave me with paper that wont pass for the CHL class.

from the sounds of it, i may just take the class asap and on the mailing address field write down my new address?

Thanks guys! really appreciate it :patriot:
