I only hope that I am not one of the random many that seems senselessly punished by DPS's speed. For 60 days I pray...... So around the house-carry is a good way to get broken in huh? So whats the most popular carry? I don't have a carry gun per-se but I have several that I could carry, kinda heavy I think. So I wanted to know what was the hot item in CCW.

Check out the general gun section, specifically the "what do you carry and why" thread. It should help you out. I am going to be carrying a 3" Kimber Tactical Ultra II in .45ACP, fwiw. Light, thin, and powerful.

Start with what you have. It does not have to be expensive, just reliable. My first was a Ruger P89, 9mm in a Don Hume PCCH, IWB Holster, & a Justin western belt. That whole rig was less than $500.00. A little large for carry but managable. Spend the time it takes to look, listen, & try out different arms & holsters. Join one of the local IDPA or IPSCA shooting clubs & tell them you are new to carry & want to see, listen to suggestions, & if they do not mind maybe wear a rig for a while after the shoot. I have loaned several different times & others are willing to for people that show a real interest in learning.

I could not agree more. I believe that shooting under pressure is great practice. The pressure gives me a more realistic view of what I might hit should I need to use my weapon in a defensive situation. Shooting one of these matches sure beats sitting in a recliner and reading about other people doing it!

I used to be one of those people and cheated myself out of years of fun and training. You will be welcome with open arms, give it a try.

BTW, I am not a Sigma fan, but I hear that the newer ones have improved over what I have shot in the past. Dustin on this board has a Sigma and other than the trigger, it was ok to shoot. Do the best with what you have while saving the money for what you really feel comfortable with.

haha not really I bought one a month ago used for $199 only fired 50 rounds in 2 years. It was really cheap and I just bought it on a wimm when I walked in. I've only shot it once and have a tough time shooting it it works just fine I just can't hit anything with it. I also recently bought a Mark3 .22 and a EAA Witness P Carry .45. Whats the census on EAA Witness models?

Sold my 40VE after a week or two of purchasing it. Now I have an XD9mm and my only regret was purchasing the 40VE in the first place. The trigger is HORRIBLE.

Well I am partial to glocks. I own a Glock 23 in .40 S&W. I LOVE this gun. It holds 13+1 and ALWAYS works. I believe the glocks are the most reliable handguns made. IMHO

Wow...Witness P...gotta tell you that there are so many top notch people on these forums....you will not go wrong in listening and trying out their suggestions....It's amazing what you will learn...such as from LT (longtooth), etc.... Huge learning curve about all aspects of ccw, terminology, equipment ....HV (High Velocity) is my holster go -to guy....these guys have been there n done it and then re-invented doing it again! Lol ...sounds corny ...but true. No idol time wastin here ...ha!

I just recently let go of my all-steel Witness Compact. I had both .40SW and 9mm barrel/slide assemblies. I functioned flawlessly for me. I only gave it up to get a lighter Glock with higher capacity. I had no problem trusting my life to the Witness, and I carried it daily until I traded it in.

I carry a SW9VE and shoot IDPA with it as well. In the short time that I've had it, I have shot 3 or 4 thousand rounds through it and have not had a problem with it. It is a little big for carry. The trigger is not as good as say the glock's, but if you can shoot you can hit your target with it. My next one will either be a Glock or XD compact. Mabe Elgato will let me shoot his XD next time I see him.
