UPDATE: CA Student Expelled no more for guns in truck

Post by UpTheIrons »

Here's an article updating the story of the California HS student who was expelled after two shotguns were found in his truck which was parked off campus. He is expelled no more and his record has been wiped clean.

Interesting to see the principal so distressed over it. Seems like he's in the same vein as an Assistant Principal I once had - Snap to! My word is Law! Thus saith me! You can't handle the truth! Etc., etc., and etc.

thanks for the update Up!

I'm dumbfounded by the remarks of the school principal and the superintendent. If there is a psychological term for fearing guns, or people that own them, then these farrrrrrrrrr left wing liberals have it.

The term you're looking for is "hoplophobia" and it was coined by Col. Jeff Cooper.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Thank you, quidni.

If one will research quidni's post back far enough, one will come to Leonidas and his 300 Spartans (Hoplites) and our cry of Μολών λαβέ!

Is this a small world or what?

:tiphat: Please excuse my small digression but I was so excited to hear, once again, about the Hoplites that I couldn't help myself. What a great place to learn is the TexasCHLforum. Oy vey!

Interesting outcome. I'm very happy the boy's expulsion was overturned and record cleared. What I find interesting is that the school actually thinks they have authority beyond their boundaries and that they insist this decision is a political one. It is one they would lose if they chose to fight it in court. In my humble non-lawyer opinion. The statement that one would have to dig down deep to find someone to do the right thing just makes me sick. :banghead:

The decision is a political one, but it's still the right one.

Principal: "But...but...but...but the rulebook says..."
School Board: "But, two brain cells rubbed together say..."

As Nitrogen said, it is a political decision, but one also borne of common sense. This "Zero Tolerance" nonsense has got to go, and if it takes numerous cases like this scattered all over the country for more people to wake up and see how stupid those rules are and start to rise up against them, then so be it - political decisions or not. The girl from Oklahoma is another example - empty shotgun shell hulls for a science project.

My son had a project in Kindergarten for "100 Day" - bring a collection of 100 items for the little parade around the school. He wanted to bring 100 empty brass casings. The principal (who really does have her stuff together) said nope, he'd get an automatic referral if he brought even one into the building. Of course, I had one in my pocket to illustrate just how harmless they were, but no dice.

"And, the fact they had to face folks who are avid hunters. In this community, you have to dig down deep to stand up and do the right thing," he added.
They DID the right thing -- HE should try digging deeper...
The county board "is undermining our authority. They are definitely saying we don't have jurisdiction off campus," he complained.
