Now you're going to have to explain to the younger folks what "Green Stamps" are.
You really are a "junior" member. :smilelol5: "rlol"

Many moons ago stores (mainly grocery) would give you stamps depending on how much you bought ( the more you spent, the more stamps you'd get) and you would save them in a book and redeem them for mechandise. The more books you saved the better merchandise you cound redeem. The most popular ones I remember were S&H Green Stamps in this area. This was more poular in our mother's time; I think they got phased out in the seventies or early eighties.

Sorry, no Kinkos back then and as I recall copy machines made negative images at that time. Also Green Stamps looked like postage stamps and had glue on the back that had to be wet and then stuck in a book. My grandmother got all kinds of stuff with them and she and my mother liked to shop on the days that stores offered "Double Stamps".
I was saying that if you tried that now, it would be SOOOOOOO easy to make fake ones. I assume that was part of the problem and may be one of the reasons for the decline. Also with the growing Uber-Chain Market Stores there would be a drop off as well. Not to mention the Mini-Depressions in the 70s and 80s

S&H Green Stamps were real common between the '30's and early '80's. There were various other trading stamp companies also, but S&H were the big ones. I remember as a kid in the mid-sixties we drove up to the town where my Aunt lived just so my Mom could get a hand crank ice cream freezer with her books of stamps. It made really good ice cream  , but I sure hated having to crank it!!

Anyone else spot the rend here?

I have to agree with TAM. Though a lot of us will present our CHL anytime we are stopped, the law requires it if you are armed. So if I was an LEO, I would assume you were armed and ask if I had any questions. Please don't tell a cop, "I'm armed." or "I have a gun". The response may not be to far removed from a comedian's inaccurate view on CHL in Texas. His whole theme was "Don't mess with Texas...Pow!Pow!" He stated incorrectly that if you have a CCW and are stopped you have to tell the cop "I have a gun." to which he'll reply, "Oh yeah? I have one too,,,Pow!Pow!"

Where I grew up (SoCal), there was S&H, but also Blue Chip stamps — which were kind of the same thing. In addition to being able to redeem the stamp books for catalog items, there was a mom & pop store in Glendora where I lived that would take completed stamp books as payment for items on the shelf, like candy and inexpensive toys. So for 10-12 year old boys with no money for those kinds of things, there was a ready black market in completed stamp books on "long term loan without permission from their mothers" for the purchasing of such necessary items. I am sure that the exchange rate was in the store owner's favor.

Probably a smart move TAM. My Mother once told me 'You may be too big now to give a whipping to, but I am still your Momma, and I can make you regret what you did!' It still applies today, even though Mom is 89. And there IS no 'statute of limitations' with Mom's. ;-)

I doubt my CHL would help me. I have only been pulled over 4 times in my life.

1) Speeding. 72 in a 60. Officer polite. Ticket
2) The light bulb that illuminates my license plate on my motorcycle had burned out. Officer very rude. Ticket.
3) Speeding. 68 in a 60. Officer polite. Ticket
4) Brake light burned out on my motorcycle. Officer very polite and chatty. Ticket.

I try to be friendly, but it has never gotten me out of a ticket. I have not been pulled over with a CHL, but I fully expect a ticket if it happens.

Hey there were also Gold Bond Stamps ... don't forget them. Making stamps at Kinkos? I bet they would love you for runnin' those icky sticky backed pages through their $10,000 copiers. :biggrinjester:

My wife and I outfitted the baby room for our firstborn with S&H Green Stamps. We bought $20 worth of groceries every week. We didn't eat out much and always ate well. Some stores would carefully count out the stamps. Others would just hand you a handful. We always shopped at those stores! ;-)

Wish they gave 'em at the gunshop nowadays.

Never had a problem...In...ahhhh...14 years??? yep...long time...

Sure there has been some tension, but I have found that if you do not give them an excuse to get testy with you, things go smoothly...Not that you need to do anything other than "yes sir/ma'am", "no sir/ma'am"...And also reside yourself to getting a citation...That puts your attitude in the proper frame... :thumbs2:

Sure I have received some warnings, but I do not use the card or expect one, just because I carry...If you commit a traffic violation, you have broken the law, plain and simple...Reside yourself to getting that citation and take yer lumps...No excuses...

Will I break the law again...Probably...I average it about once every two years...sigh...

This state has had a remarkable record of very few problems that I have heard of over the years about law enforcement and how they understand and treat those of us who have taken up the responsibility and to be accountable as Concealed Handgun Licencees...

Other states tend to bust the chops of people like us regularly, just because...

OK -- My parents (mainly my mother) was into Raleigh Coupons. They came attached to the back of cartons and packages of Raleigh Cigarettes. You can see the commercials in the "way-back" machine, here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3DiRMbAM68" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The one time I got pulled over since I got my CHL was odd. Got busted by a DPS unit for a missing front plate (bracket broke off, I didn't even realize it was missing, law says I have to have a plate so oh well). I just got a warning for the plate, but he had me and my passenger get out, disarmed me, checked to make sure my handgun wasn't stolen (ran the serial). To their credit, we were two white boys with a lot of guns driving by a black neighborhood - they didn't check any of the other guns, but he did chit chat about how nice a couple of my rifles looked. And he did seem to be a rookie on training, and apologized for treating us "like criminals" (his words) when he sent us on our way.

Odd.
