I work from home and have multiple machines going. I spend a lot of time waiting for massive batch jobs to run.

Ugh, I was just lamenting the fact that I couldn't seem to get any traction today.
I work from home too, but I can't seem to get into the work mode this morning. Between this site and facebook, my productivity has been zilch.

I'm self employed which affords me the luxury of having flexible hours of operation.

What were you doing the 70 years before you retired? Napping! Nah its tough, I worry about my folks. Well really I worry about my Mom, my Dads got a decade or so on her and is nearing retirement. She works from home, I think she'll kill him if he is home 24/7.Oldgringo wrote:Yepper, now if we only had some money; life would indeed be grand.cougartex wrote:It's great to be RETIRED!!!![]()

Re: Dont you people have Jobs!
I didn't work for the government. I worked in the private sector as a Construction Manager. There was no time for napping or any allowance for napping. Unfortunately for us and many others, a significant amount of our savings were stolen when Lehman Bros. took bankruptcy before the big bailouts began.marksiwel wrote:

If I was a young guy like you apparently are, I would be worrying about who is going to pay off Obama, Reid, Pelosi, et al's, national debt...but I'm not a young guy and that's okay.

If we are lucky someone will step up and say enough is enough, time to get out from under China's boot heal, and worry about ourselves.
That or
Its the End of the World as we know it, and all debt gets wiped clean, and then we can rebuild and do it better.
I hope for the first one

What do you plan to do when Obama and Pelosi run out of money?Oldgringo wrote:If I was a young guy like you apparently are, I would be worrying about who is going to pay off Obama, Reid, Pelosi, et al's, national debt...but I'm not a young guy and that's okay.
As a younger guy, I grew up expecting to provide for my own golden years instead of relying on a government check. I used to save aggressively in my 401k but that all changed when I saw Bush spending like a drunken sailor. I stopped putting money in US investments 7-8 years ago and started investing outside the country. I had to do it with post-tax money, instead of getting the 401k or IRA tax break, but I thought it was worth it. The meltdown in Bush's final year proved me right, and that's even more true after a year of Obama.
At this rate, I'll have a nice nest egg in foreign accounts by the time I retire. I'm also in the process of buying a "vacation home" outside the US. I looked at homes in Texas but it's still overpriced in the urban areas. I may buy some acreage in a rural area in case the country doesn't go completely down the tubes by 2040 but based on the current situation I'm planning to retire somewhere else.
