Re: Plane hits building in Austin
So, was this guy crazy or does he have valid points with his note? I mean, at what point does everyone put their foot down and stop letting the government run wildly out of control?
It's just sad that everyone has gotten so greedy...

Re: Plane hits building in Austin
caught a snippet on CNN of the tail end of an interview with Rick Perry about this. Didn't hear the question he was answering, but obviously had something to do with somehow comparing this event with the gunshots at the Capitol a few weeks ago, because Perry specifically referenced that event and his well-rehearsed "don't want the Capitol to be like DFW airport" line. For the millions around the world who saw the quote on CNN, but don't understand the context, Perry probably seems a bit nutty. Anyway, here's the part I REALLY liked:
Hopefully we can head off the "ban private ownership of airplanes" movement before it starts.
Texas Governor Rick Perry wrote:you will always have some exposure in a free society. The balance is finding how to protect the people and also protect their freedoms and liberties.

Re: Plane hits building in Austin
and of course right on cue, CNN's resident king idiot Rick Sanchez is already asking "what can we do to prevent this?" so far he's come up with requiring all pilots to file flight plans because a maniac will of course stick to a flight planaustinrealtor wrote:Hopefully we can head off the "ban private ownership of airplanes" movement before it starts.

Then once that happens I'll have file a driving plan next. Then a plan to walk to the mailbox, which is of course "Federal property" and the gubment must know where I am and what I'm doing at all times. And if I deviate from my official plan I'll of course be arrested.
Re: Plane hits building in Austin
Post 9/11 private flights were required to contact TRACON and file flight plans. Kinda hard to do in a balloon. We worked out a deal with the NSA where we called TRACON and told them our launch coordinates, general direction of flight and the called them once we had landed.austinrealtor wrote:and of course right on cue, CNN's resident king idiot Rick Sanchez is already asking "what can we do to prevent this?" so far he's come up with requiring all pilots to file flight plans because a maniac will of course stick to a flight planaustinrealtor wrote:Hopefully we can head off the "ban private ownership of airplanes" movement before it starts.![]()

In this case, filing a flight plan would have done no good even if he had wandered off track. Georgetown to north Austin is about 15 miles max and by the time he was airborne en-route, he was there in probably 5 minutes.

These are the webpages mentioned in the manifesto:austinrealtor wrote:Anyone know enough about federal tax code to interpret what upset him about the 1986 amendment he mentions in letter? Something about exceptions for computer engineers?

What we can do is throw out our monster tax code and start over with something the average citizen can understand, and pay.austinrealtor wrote:and of course right on cue, CNN's resident king idiot Rick Sanchez is already asking "what can we do to prevent this?"
What we can do is rein in the Hydra that has become the Federal government, if enough of us have the will.
What are you doing watching CNN anyway??

At no time do you fly a plane into a building. You want to change the world, do it through the legal political process. Else you're not better than Al Qaeda and deserve to be exterminated.shortysboy09 wrote:So, was this guy crazy or does he have valid points with his note? Lots of real, positive change was caused through illegal means. I believe you mean non-violent.frazzled wrote:At no time do you fly a plane into a building. Re: Plane hits building in Austin
Here's a novel concept...everyone pays the same percentage regardless of you making $150,000 or $15,000,000. If everyone paid the same flat tax rate, problem solved. I'm sick and tired of paying for the lazy and for welfare.Rex B wrote: What we can do is throw out our monster tax code and start over with something the average citizen can understand, and pay.
But back on topic: I'm with frazzled. There is never a time where this is acceptable. You may not agree with things, but at this point you are no different than any other Jihadi.

I think your view is extremist in itself. While I agree this isolated incident borders on domestic terrorism, isn't globally lumping all activists who might do something illegal into the barrel with al-Qaeda is a little overboard?frazzled wrote:I said what I meant.Drewthetexan wrote:Lots of real, positive change was caused through illegal means. Re: Plane hits building in Austin
What I was suggesting (rather gracelessly) is that a legal political process doesn't always work, and an alternative to violent action is more along the lines of civil disobedience. Hope I didn't offend.frazzled wrote:I said what I meant.Drewthetexan wrote:Lots of real, positive change was caused through illegal means. 1. At no time do you fly a plane into a building...else you're no better than Al Qaeda. There is no excuse, no justification for acts of terrorism.
2. I don't believe in committing illegal acts. Do it through the legal process. I am not saying committing illegal acts equates to terrorism, but I do not support illegal acts as a method of positive change.

The Founding Fathers were criminals in their time, as was Ghandi

Generally, I'd agree. Breaking the law is wrong. And without a doubt, killing people and blowing things up is bankrupt. No issues there.
I suppose you disagree with Ghandi and Dr. King too? They were all about breaking the law.
