Gander Mountain - thumbs up

Post by Blinking Dog »

I happened to be on I-45 this weekend south of Dallas and saw a Gander Mountain store, so I decided to drop in. I scanned for signs on the front door as I started in, and like most sporting goods retailers there was a sign that read something to the effect of "no unloaded guns". Except, and to my surprise, at the bottom of the sign was language that made it clear that this did not pertain to folks legally carrying under the concealed carry law. Seems like many of us have taken issue with the "no unloaded guns" signs at other retailers, as the target audience is seldom clear. But in the case of Gander Mountain they were very explicit, and I felt quite welcome.

Unfortunately, like most big box sporting goods retailers their prices on guns and ammo were quite high so I came out empty-handed.

Never have seen a 30.06 sign at gander mountain. However, I have been shocked by some other signs I saw there, namely the ones with the prices on them in the ammo section "rlol"

I think that a "No Unloaded Guns" sign is perfect in and of itself

Exactly.. it's not the loaded ones you have to worry about anyways. They behave themselves. Unloaded ones kill people by accident every year! Them's the problem.
Also the reason I keep all my guns loaded, always. Don't want them to be tempted to follow in these Unloaded guns' paths... shootin random innocent people by accident.

Oops. No Unloaded Guns would have been perfect indeed.
I couldn't remember if it was No Loaded Guns or Guns Must Be Unloaded. Why not blend them!

Went in a Bass Pro Shop once and inside the door was a sign to leave all firearms with the attendant at the entrance or something to that effect. The “attendant” was obviously under 21. :grumble I went back out and left my gun in the car. Didn’t want the hassle.
God Bless America, and please hurry.

Visited the same store a couple of months ago. Bought a Ruger LCP for what I thought was a very reasonable price. My brother was with me and bought a gun also. The ammo was very high so we left there and went to walmart. I visited a GM in AR when ammo was really hard to find. The guy behind the counter was taking boxes of ammo out of a walmart bag and marking up the price 300%.

How nice :mad5

I'll steer my business elsewhere.

Did you call him out on it on the spot?

That sign does not pertain to those with the CCL. That is for long guns.

yes - his response was supply and demand.

And my response to him would have been that with his prices that high there won't be any demand for his ammo.

I shoot at Bass pro quite a bit. The first time I shot there after getting my CHL, I walked in the door with a gun on my hip and 2 in my bag. I stopped at the front check in and asked, "I have my CHL. How does this work? Do I stop here and let you check in my ammo? Do you need to lock my guns" He said, "Just tell me you're CHL and I'll tell you to have a nice day and enjoy the range." When I got back to the range, the guy behind the counter asked if he needed to unlock my guns. I said no and that's all there was to it.

Nice place to shoot, although they did raise their range fees to $12. I'm going to look into joining DPC. It looks like there are a few members on the forum that speak well of it.

Indeed.
I guess that's why I stock when I can on good prices; particularly for target/range grade cartridges. I'm not going to be price gouged to the tune of 300% on plinking ammo. I also don't require much harder to find calibers. I suppose on I-45, they are able to get away with folks buying what they've marked up 300%.

Us choosing not buy any is about all we can do with that. Kind of makes me want to run to one of my local small-business gun shops and buy some ammo...
