Nature call

Post by VoiceofReason »

One night my partner and I were patrolling on a dirt road way out in the country. I had to answer the call of nature so I asked him to stop. When he did, I opened the door, stepped out, sat back down, closed the door and told him to go.

When I stepped out there just happened to be a skunk about ten feet from me.

If that skunk had got me I imagine it would have taken some doing to convince him to let me back in the car.
God Bless America, and please hurry.
When I was young I knew all the answers. When I got older I started to realize I just hadn’t quite understood the questions.-Me

I've been sprayed by a skunk.

It's real funny when it happens to the other guy (just ask my cousin, who was with me at the time). Not so funny when it happens to you.

Our dog was sprayed about 4 years ago when I let him out in the middle of the night to do his business. I still remember the smell - it took about 3 weeks for it to finally get out of everything.

Our old Lab was sprayed about 4 years ago as well. It was in the middle of the day and I was outside with her in the back yard. At first, I saw her running towards what appeared to be a cat in the distance. I thought nothing of it until I saw the tail go up and it was in slow motion...I ran in the house and within 5 minutes, we could smell it in the house. The dog was outside burying her snout in the dirt. It was freezing cold too.

I found some concoction of Dawn, Baking Soda, and Hydrogen Peroxide. It took two baths in the 30 degree temps to finally get the smell down to an almost negligible trace.

I now have a much healthier respect for those stinky animals!

My dog caught a juvenile skunk (about 1/2 size) and shook it like a rag. The results were not good.... ...except for the skunk, which toddled off as soon as it came to its senses.

We used to have a Sheltie that got skunked AND quilled (porcupine) in the same night. Not fun.

Just a note from a country girl:
If you see a skunk in the daytime, there is a high chance it is sick-- with rabies being top on the list. Just thought I would throw that in...
