Carrying on a motorcylce (not what to do)

Post by gregthehand »

I saw this today on Beltway 8 here in Houston. I tried to get the guys attention but my stupid horn doesn't work like it should and the guy was moving pretty good and there was a car in front of me. Anyway he slipped away before I could wave or anything.

What sucks is that a Pct 5 deputy on a motorcycle shortly thereafter passed me. I don't know if he noticed this guy or not. I pocket carry when I'm on my bike for this reason.

Not good. That kind of exposure was my biggest concern too. I end up not carrying when I ride. We'll see what I do this season.

I think I have more concern for the fact that you are taking pictures while driving a vehicle at high speeds down the freeway. :coolgleamA:

My girlfriend took them actually. Just reached over onto my side of the car.

It's amazing that he would believe his weapon would stay concealed while carrying OWB and riding.
Who knows, maybe he's carrying illegally.

If I am wearing my pancake holster I tuck my shirt up under the holster to prevent this from occuring. I just purchased a cell phone concealable holster that is very comfortable to wear on the bike. Of course access to that holster while riding is a challenge, but i dont think I would try to get into a shoot out while on my bike anyway. if you are not familiar with the cell pal holster look at www. concealedcomfort.com

I wouldn't want to get into a shooting on my bike either. I have a dual purpose (street legal dirt bike) so I would use it's maneuverability to my advantage to try and get away. Speed may help but honestly even though it's a 650 cc bike it's not really that fast. However I can hop any curb, and drive through just about any ditch to get away if I really need to.

He's covered under the Motorist's Protection Act except for it being exposed or maybe he's an officer of the law.

I don't think he's an officer though with his license plate stuffed underneath the tire though so it can't be seen.

I disagree. Im sure there is another thread about it somewhere but I think open carry is a bad idea and would like to know yalls opinions.
I dont like the idea simply because if you are....lets say checking out at your local "sip and save" and youre at the register and the BG makes a quite entrance, assesses the situation, notices you have a gun and then two things happen, 1) he runs or 2) he takes you out FIRST to eliminate a definite threat to him and then he does whatever it is he is there do to.
Not saying he wont take you out with your gun concealed but maybe he'll just demand you get on the ground or leave. any hundreds of things could happen. I just know what I was taught in the service "eliminate the threat"....and in the BGs world the threat would be the law abiding citizen getting his morning coffee with his pistol being carried openly. Something else then is he kills you and takes your gun. Now there is one more illigally own gun on the street in the hands of people who we dont want having guns.
I havent thought deeply about this, this is just what comes to mind of the top of my head after a 36 hr shift with little sleep. Im open to other trains of thought and would like to hear what you guys have to say.

Plenty of threads on Open Carry. I support it. If you don't want to open carry, then carry it concealed, but we should have the choice. As for the, you'll be singled out and shot first scenario, why do we not here those stories on a daily basis from all the other open carry states?

i used to live in AZ and they have open carry there. it really isn't an issue and believe it or not it was rare to see someone carry on their hip. so don't think that just cause we all want open carry legalized in tx that we are all gonna run out and buy a gun belt and bandalero and inflict ourselves on John Q. Public. Yes in theory you are correct about keeping your "ace in the hole" to yourself, but there are also times where open carry has a use and place. most of the time open carry was most beneficial while out in the desert hiking or on horseback. never know when a rattler, coyote, mountain lion or drug runner would pop up. personally I think it is more of a desire to have back the personal freedoms that have been stripped away from us more than anything else. let's face it, without guns and the desire to protect ourselves..... the united states would not be what it is today
