Lake Placid Winter Olympics FEB 22 1980

Post by TxD »

This makes me feel really old. Seems like 9 or 10 years ago.

"Thirty years ago, they played a game that has been called the greatest upset in Olympic history, a David-vs.-Goliath tale, a political metaphor, a miracle."

"30 years later, members of the Soviet team still can’t believe they lost."

Not a hockey fan. That is the only hockey game I have watched start to finish. :patriot:

LOL, me too. It's like soccer on ice, can't understand it, can't even follow the action. But I watched that game all the way through!

I was one of many NY Telephone employees involved in supporting the Olympics - in "after action" report the whole thing was identified as the "Great New York Telephone 'Wreck-em' Race." At first people who wrecked company vehicles during that time were threatened with termination, and then a district manager, and then a divison manager, totalled their vehicles in separate wrecks within a half mile of each other, the division manager on his way to "investigate" the other.

We were all issued commemorative jackets and coats, among other things, with markings identifying us as workers. My coat was stolen by a co-worker when I wore it to a meeting of the "survivors" ad the jacket was damaged beynd repair when my sump pump failed a few years later.

I never saw the hockey games, or any of the sports, if I wasn't working somewhere, I was sleeping.
