Took wife to the range

Had a good day yesterday, finally got the wife to go back to the range, it was Eagle Peak (Outdoor range) so it was alittle chilly, but that thinned out the crowd.
I got her to try the Browning 9mm, which we found out she is better with, we actually got her on Paper for once (She normally hits the board or the hill behind/below it)
Anyway she ALMOST got a Bullseye, and she got really psyched about that.
Other than some Dummies, being dummies (Hey your friend is still down range, dont play with your gun) or (Hey guy at the 15 yard area, even though you aren't shooting, I need you to stand behind the yellow line, and NO I am not being over dramatic, dummy)

Afterwards we went to the Academy on 1431, talked to the guy behind the counter (Tony or Tommy?) Actually a smart/nice guy behind the counter at Academy. We looked at some Sigs, Glocks, the Beretta Cougar (I cant get over that rotating barrel) my wife had her eye on a Ruger 9mm, and she even talked about...wait for it....maybe getting a CHL if they allow it on Campus! She also kept playing with those Plastic Revolvers (Ruger?) I cant remember the name, man those things are LIGHT.
Went home, grabbed some Chinese food
Then we got Texas Stars tickets, went to the game (WE WON!)

I just cant seem to get her on Target, I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I'm thinking of getting her that Ruger, and taking a training course with her.

Ruger makes a good 9mm. Took my SR9 to the range for the first time yesterday and shot about 90 rounds through it with no problems.

Beretta Cougar or Stoeger Cougar?

Stoeger Industries is a subsidiary of Beretta. The Stoeger Cougars are made in Turkey using the same machinery that Beretta used to make the original Cougars. It is every bit the quality of the Beretta. The Stoeger 8000 in 9mm is identical to the Beretta Cougar L Type P (Cougar L slide, lighter barrel and beveled slide, but with a full-length magazine).

Beretta discontinued the Cougar around 2006.

Braggin' 'bout range trips must be accompanied by pics

I've found that most folks understand how to align the sights - but not that they have to keep them aligned while the trigger is pulled, so throw in a few empty chambers here and there to check for flinching.

You didn't say what distance you're shooting at, but I would seriously suggest shooting at 5 or 7 yards (25 is too far for a new shooter) so they get immediate, visible feedback in terms of what works and what doesn't.

Make it fun by using interesting targets if your range allows it - steel plates, clay pigeons, balloons with flour, whatever.

You paint an accurate picture! That's where I took my nephew and brother last week end. First time out for the nephew. I told him "follow the rules". He did a good job. I go there a lot....and don't mind the Range master yelling at the stupid's who can't follow instructions!

Suggestion: Even though she's not "afraid" to shoot the 9mm, it sounds she may be flinching a bit if she's consistently pulling her shots low. If you have the means, try starting her off on a .22 pistol next time, and then work her way up from there. She'll learn control a lot faster that way, and without developing a flinch. I've taught a number of women to shoot for their first time that way, and by the end of the day, they're on Big Poppa — my .44 magnum.

If you both get up this way, I'd be glad to take the both of you to DPC and let her try a bunch of different calibers and gun types.

I have a theory that men should not teach their wife to shoot guns or drive standard transmissions, an arguement is sure to happen. I had Denton County Sports teach my wife, that way if Greybeard said no do it this way.... then I would not be yelling at her.
She went through handgun 101, some private shooting lessons and she now has her CHL and is the owner of North Texas Arms.

I am a firm believer that starting out properly with an expert doing the teaching then positive things can happen. We started with a Sig Mosquito in 22 so the snap would not have any negative connotations. Keep at it, just do not give her a caliber that is too much for her skillset, one kick from a 357 mag can change her whole perspective on shooting.... Mine has a Sig 2022 in 9mm that she absolutly loves and shoots it very well and no trip to the range is complete without 100 rounds through the skeeter for old times sake.....

I'd also recommend a good amount of dry firing to allow her to see what is happening to the front sight.

My instructor recommended somebody to the ladies in our class. She and her husband have a private range off Hamilton Pool Rd. and he said not to shoot against them in IDPA. Isn't it odd that I can remember all this, but not her name? If you are willing to drive that far, I'll dig up the name for you. I'm still working on getting my wife to even consider shooting one of the guns...

Model 67 Revolver, 9mm Browning Hi Power, and a Walther p22 (but its so inaccurate I dont think its much of a training tool)
