No firearms on premises

Post by A-R »

Was watching a YouTube link to a different movie clip provided by another forum member in a different thread, and stumbled upon this clip of the final gun battle of the Clint Eastwood Academy Award Best Picture classic "Unforgiven". I've seen this movie at least a dozen times but until now, watching this small snippet of it on YouTube, had never noticed the sign in the bar where this gun fight takes place. First glimpse is at about the 4-minute mark on this video, after Eastwood's character has shot all the "bad guys" and steps over to pour himself a drink, notice the sign on the wall:

"No firearms on premises"

Guess that sign worked about as well back then as it does today since there are at least 10 guns in that establishment at the time.

Standard warning that this is a clip from an R-rated and very violent movie, scenes of gunshot men etc.

"You just shot an un-armed man!"
"Well, if he's gonna decorate his establishment with my friend, he should've armed himself."

One of the all time great movie lines.

I dont know if we have any Comic Book Fans, but that scene in Unforgiven is what inspired the Saint of Killers in the very risque book "Preacher"

The other part of that scene that is obviously related to what we normally discuss here is the importance of a backup weapon. I'll never forget the first time I saw "Unforgiven", the sound of that "click" when the second barrel of Eastwood's shotgun fails to fire is just deafening.
